Don't the Rangers have a glut on the wing and could use more center depth?

You sold Monahan for more than you did with Gaudreau 😐

Of course I did. Gaudreau has only one year left on his deal. Monahan has two. That, in and of itself, commands more trade value.

Then by that logic would Jesper Fast cost more than Andrei Svechnikov?

Of course not. My point is that Gaudreau and Monahan are similar-caliber players in a similar age range, except the latter has had a bit of an off-year. He still, however, is going to be worth more in a trade because of the extra year left.

Easy no for the Rangers. I wouldn't trade Chytil or Buchnevich alone for Monahan, let alone both + a 1st. That's an absurd overpayment

Woah that top 6 FWs are worse.
Dont think Calgary will move Monahan or Gaudreau in those trades but do feel they need to make big move.

Neither of those do it for me.

The idea is that you temporarily downgrade, but accumulate picks and young players on that path and hope that Chytil and Frost take the next step. That's what a good retool is all about.

Yeah right. Sean Monahan isn’t even a top 30 center.

Monahan IMO is the more valuable player, though. I think a Buch/Monahan straight-up swap would be highway robbery for the Rangers. I don't think that the Rangers would lose the trade that I proposed, either. Usually the team that gets the best player wins the deal.

Gaudreau might be able to get moved for a late first round pick IF the acquiring team has multiple first round picks and is on the rise OR if a contender wants to load up for next year.
Monahan would likely fetch a mid first round pick plus a B/B+ prospect from a team needing a decent 2-3C. However not many teams want to pay $6 m for a 3C. Since he’s had a down year as you mentioned then his value is super low and will not get traded. The TDL next year those two might fetch a good return.

Flyers aren't giving you Frost, a first and retaining on JVR, you would have to eat his $7 mil.

Oh that's nice. Unfortunately there's a gap between your opinion and reality.

    Screen-Shot-2021-04-16-at-1-56-08-PM

Buch has been provided more than double the on-ice value of Monahan over the last 3 seasons in 500 less mins. It's kinda a joke. I'd probably get a bit more comfortable with value metrics and player evaluation before proposing more deals...

Monahan is a 2C playing in the 1C slot.. just no. We have a 1C, 2C and Chytil is pretty much at 2C level..
