Chevys off Season

Created by: jgimp69
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 16, 2021
Published: Apr. 16, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Don’t hate me Isles fans. On face value it looks terrible but you clear Ladds contract, get a great middle 6 centreman who can move up and down the lineup in Copp (sign and trade) , and get a big, mobile LHD in Samberg, who’s on his ELC and who would pair quite nicely with Dobson, and have enough cap space to sign your big RFAs. You also get a 1st rounder in the 22-32 range, although I estimate it in the 22-26 range. It can be moved to 22’ as the draft class seems better.
This is of course dependant on Pulock agreeing to an extension next off season.

This may be the only way the Jets get their top Dman. Drafting and developing one will take 4-5 years putting it out of our window. Getting one in UFA is slim. Copp, Samberg and a 1st along with the cap dump is expensive, but it is at least palatable and really doesn’t hurt that much as Samberg seems to be blocked by Stanley and Heinola, Copp I think walks so moving him while getting Pulock back minimizes the hurt. Jets get an additional 2nd with hopes they draft a goalie like Lennox.

I hate losing Copp, but I think the writing is on the wall. He will file for arbitration and his agent will walk him to UFA. He want to play in the states and this puts him close to his BFF

the isles would not give away Pulock or Pelech, but they might give away Ladd

They aren’t getting rid of Ladd without a huge add, hence the reason I put together this trade. At least the Isles get some really good long term replacement minimizing the damage

It’s highly unlikely pelech would sign an OS

The only way you’re prying pulock from the isles is if you overpay. Perfetti and a 1st

I’d bet Lou finds a way to get Ladd to Robidas Island this summer, but if not, this wouldn’t be the worst thing. Dobson replaces Pulock, Wilde becomes the heir to the 2nd pairing slot, Zajac leaves but is replaced by an upgrade in Copp. I don’t LIKE it, but I at least see what you’re getting at.

I will say Samberg is too similar to an LHD prospect we have in Bolduc. I’d add either another RHD prospect or a prospect at Forward.

Eh in theory sounds like a good idea. But I don’t think the isles agree to this. Too high of a price, they’d probably just rather spend a 2022 1st to dump Ladd if they have to. I’m guessing Ladd ends up on LTIR.

Wow! That is a pretty massive overpay by Winnipeg for one year of Pulock especially considering the Jets are also taking on a big cap dump. I think Chevy would steer well, well clear of this.

pulock is a top 15 defenseman in the league this season. Trading him for anything less than an overpay closes the window. Wilde is 2 years out. They can trade leddy if they can't get ladd to robidas.

So what are you guys doing about your cap situation then? You are currently heading into TBay territory of cap hell

Not many teams can take cap dumps and those that do will require massive overpays to take them. At least this way the Isles get a quality return

leddy on pace for 47 points this season and above average defensively is a cap dump? Varlamov is in the vezina conversation making only 5 mill for the next 2 years. He's a cap dump? Try to be a little more objective.

that's exactly why the isles aren't trading him unless the jets overpay. The isles wouldn't even entertain it unless perfetti and a 1st was included

Not the ones that were mentioned and not the ones I was thinking of. I never said Leddy and Varlarmov were dumps. Komorov, Ladd and Hickey were the ones mentioned

Sorry, I missed that in the description. Although we shouldn't be paying extra just because he's willing to sign. If he was already signed yes, but there is no reason to pay extra just because he's willing to sign. Plus, we're still getting stuck with Ladd.

The isles can free up 10.5 mill in cap space by trading leddy and varlamov. Leddy has 1 year left at 5.5 mill and varlamov has 2 years left at 5 mill. They are in a much better position cap wise this offseason than last offseason.

Our cap situation isn’t that bad, and it’s definitely not near the territory of having to trade a top 3 player on the team
