I was prepared for this. Honestly it’s time for us to accept the fact that Lowry is our shutdown 3C of the future.

This contract works for me. Not a gross overpay, but a deal that’s fair for both sides. Now let’s see if they can convince Copp to stay.

Why do GMs love signing middle/bottom six forwards for long-term deals?

It's not bad, but "fantastic" is an exaggeration

It's a good contract after a career year. Winnipeg has a nice 1-2-3 center group now with Scheifele-PLD-Lowry.

Trouble is in 3/5 years though, big body playing a physical game for 10/12 years is not going to end well. Especially with an all ready slow skater. Loyalty contract to a t, that probably should have been tested and gambled through expansion draft as a ufa

I'd say it's decent. He's having a good season after an underwhelming one.

I agree, but it seems like GMs nowadays are signing deals with longer term, expecting high level of play for the first 3/4 of the deal, and a regression in the last 1/4.

This should have waited until after the ED though. Makes it a lot more complicated.

Is the price going to be 4M per?

For Copp? Likely 5 million to get him to stay. His agent is a prick. They’ll either try and get something crazy like 5x5, or they’ll just file for arbitration, get a 1 year deal and then walk in FA.
