What a great contract for Winnipeg. Their cap situation is already looking good going forward, and contracts like these is why we can say that.

After Laughton, an other bottom 6 forward extended for 5 years. It shows that you can still get terms even with flat cap as a bottom 6

IMO it helps when the player has shown that he's reliable defensively. It becomes less risky

Not a fan of the length, just like on the Laughton deal. Someone in less than 5 years could easily pass him on the depth chart.

Price is fine and not really an issue.

Lowry was really good a few years ago.

He hasn't been that for the last two years.

Not a good contract. Not sure why teams are giving this much term to bottom six guys, unless it's some galaxy brain move trying to dissuade Seattle from taking them in the expansion draft or whatever.

See? It's not just the Canucks who overpay their bottom 6 forwards

Great contract. Term may be long but it's a way to have a low AAV...my only problem is that Appleton may be gone to Seattle

Wheels
Scheifs
Ehlers
Connor
Dubois
Lowry
Copp

These will be protected

I am PUMPED! What a great signing for the Jets!! Very shocked at how many people voted no already. He’s been a stud for the Jets this year and is a part of what is considered one the the best 3rd shutdown lines in the game. Jets fans should be excited about this signing!

People here hated the Laughton deal, but this is no better. In fact, it is probably worse.

This was my only concern as well. I think we lose Appleton nkw unfortunately. I agree that it would have been much smarter to sign him after the expansion draft but Lowry’s a UFA. He sort of holds althe cards as to whether he was willing to do so.

Pearson, Laughton, Lowry - its simply the new market for third line two way forwards.

Then there's Sheary who took a massive discount.

True. Though his role is a bit more restricted to complimentary. Unless I'm not fully educated on his usage, I don't believe he is used in a defensive role?

He would had got more on the UFA market (he would had been on top of the list, considering Landeskog RNH and Danault will likely resign) .

Good signing. I dont care what advanced stats are, every time you look at him play, you wish he was on your team.

I don't know why they felt this was necessary. How do you give him 5 years and not get a discount on cap hit? Especially in a flat cap league, there's no way he gets close to a deal like this on the open market.*

*Jim Benning could always find a way

It’s cause Lowry might walk after other teams offer him more. Appleton or the first are as good as gone though

Overall, I think this is a solid deal for the Jets. I think Lowry can be a solid 40 point player in an 82 game season.
