I love Barzel and have to hate McDavid because... Edmonton. But McDavid is the right choice here.

McDavid is (by far and away) the best player in the game right now, with only Draisaitl coming close. Matthews is getting there (biased Leaf fan), MacKinnon, Panarin, Kucherov (if hip surgery doesn't leave him a shadow of his fomer self) to name a few, but Barzal is no where close to him. And I'm a big Barzal fan, but he'll never come close to CMD. There is no player in the world that could be traded straight up for McD. Period.

Someone please prove me wrong.

Why does everyone only look at the points man. When you really look at NHL games you will clearly see that CROSBY IS THE BEST PLAYER

And if your saying Mat Barzal is not every close to McDavid you only watch game highlights

I watch plenty of games, all over the NHL. He's got a ton of talent, is working his way to superstar ranking. But he's not. Nobody is. He'll be a top 10-20 player in the league, but McD is well ahead of all the rest. ****, he's only # 5 coming out of his draft class........ (McD, Eichel, Marner, Rantanen ahead of him)

Please tell me you are joking if you think Barzal is at the same level of McDavid - I wouldn't suggest in here people don't watch hockey when you think this is a close comparison. This thread should be closed given how silly it is.

Sid has been the best player of his time - that being said, the baton is being passed to McDavid as the best player in hockey right now.

First of all, it's just Hockey, not Ice Hockey.

Second, Crosby was the best player in the world for a time. Just because at one point you were the best, doesn't mean you get to carry the mantel until you retire. Gretzky was the best player for years, but you can't tell me he still was when he was with the Blues or Rangers. That's the beauty of hockey and sports in general. It evolves, players evolve, there's always someone ready to step up and take the crown.
And you mentioned people only looking at stats........if you're going to say the best player in the world has to be an all around player, you can't even add Barzal to the equation, cause he doesn't kill penalties and isn't out there in key defensive situations.
