The trade value of Rickard Rakell for next year

Created by: sensonfire
Team: 2021-22 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 16, 2021
Published: Apr. 16, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Tyler Toffoli trade from February, 2020 between the Canucks and the Kings could serve as a useful template.

When the Toffoli trade was announced, the majority of people on here voted "fair deal".

What the Kings essentially got for Toffoli from the Canucks was:

1. A 2.7 million reduction to their cap hit, whether it was from retained salary or a roster player that would leave the NHL in the offseason.

2. A 2nd round pick for the upcoming draft

3. A forward prospect that can play centre and that was recently a mid-round draft pick.

4. A conditional 4th round pick for a later draft.

This is what I think the Ducks could get for Rakell at next year's trade deadline.

By then, Rakell will be a pending UFA, just like what Toffoli was at the 2020 trade deadline.

The teams that are shown here are teams that were linked to Rakell from this season, according to the Fourth Period.

These are illustrative examples and nothing more.

Let me know what your thoughts and I'll see you in the comments :D

Allow me to assist you by clarifying that the "2.7 million" and "3.7 million" figures refer to the eventual cap hit to the acquiring team AFTER retention, not the retention itself.

I know, but others may not, that you are well aware that retention can only be 50% of the cap hit.

To help a team that couldn't possibly contend and then either depart for 0 or re-sign to a bad contract for the Ducks as a 29 year old eager to get P$A$I$D

              😐

Tyler Tullio meanwhile had an above average pre draft NHLe and is putting up good numbers in a top level pro league as a 19 year why not take him + 2nd / 4th

We absolutely should not hold onto one penny of Rickey's contract. He's an above .50 PPG player making under 4 mil. If a team wants him they can pay him that amount. We're not giving him away. And I am not interested in second round picks and B-level prospects. We have lots of that. If we're trading Ricky it's for a young player who can step into the lineup right now or it's not worth it.
