fringe NHL defenseman the past few years, just can't get past the Hawks depth chart. He's ready for a third pairing role playing 8-10 minutes a game. Hawks simply don't have a spot for him. Has great offensive upside as well.

NickC, I usually agree with you and I 100% applaud you optimism. There aren't a ton of young RHD, but I still just can't get on the Pokka train anymore. Why doesn't he have 1 game of experience yet?! This year the hawks do have REALLY nice depth with Campbell, Kempny, and Forsling all getting ice time and none of them were even on the Hawks roster last year, but speaking of last year...they had Pokka and they had SERIOUS depth issues. TVR was the defacto #4 with Gustafsson, Svedberg, and Rosi taking turns @ 5/6. Pokka didn't even get a single game in. He also played quite poorly in the World Cup, but I'll admit those aren't great indicators of NHL success....Halak was a superstar and got waived a few months later. I hope other teams like that he was drafted 34th overall, I really do. I just don't know why he hasn't been given a shot.

There may be many many reasons that Pokka has not seen NHL ice yet but I think most people think he is ready. If the Blackhawks make any trades that involve a defenseman other than him, I will bet my next paycheck he sees NHL ice this season. He will be called up before Gus, Sved, Fors, ect.

I hope you're right. AND I really like what Stan and Q are doing by splitting up the vets/young guys in order to get young guys serious ice time in real situations. That's the only way they'll grow. I also lends itself to exactly what you're saying...a future trade of one of these guys.

I feel like the biggest reason is because the right side is simply stacked. Seabrook hammer TVR and even Rosy. The Hawks don't want to call him up to give him inconsistent minutes. Also, they'll be able to sign him cheap in the offseason similar to McNeill and give him a shot.

A 27th and 57th pick for Kapanen is no deal for the Leafs. Kapanan is the Leafs top winger prospect and age 20 is playing well in the AHL. Leafs really need to see how is at the NHL next year, cause if he us legit NHL, the Leafs have a good right side with Marner and Brown also. Then hopefully Nylander can get back to centre with Matthews, and Kadri.. That's some high end talent.
Pokka at age 22, would be no better than than the three Marlie Dmen 20, 21, 21 year old in the AHL, so the Leafs would rather have Komarov this year and next rather than a guy Pokka who has never played in the NHL
For folks who think a 27th pick is magical and gives immediate returns.....just check the past five years of players drafted from that late. Few difference makers, some fringe NHLer, others never in the NHL.
As a Leaf, I'll take my changes with Kapanen.

Just looking at this quickly without getting into semantics,

Kapanen = 1st round pick (Approx)
Komarov = Pokka and 2nd round pick (Approx)

I think its fine but I personally wouldn't do it from a Leafs perspective. T.O needs to stay the course. Only trading away expiring contracts at the deadline for players they know they will not resign. No big blockbusters either. The urge is to do something now but this team pretty much one year away from being at least a playoff team. They need to nab a couple smart free agents to bolster the defense and depth but other than that, don;'t change a thing.

As for Chicago, I just don't see how they can take on salary. They'll need ever bit of it going forward.

Toronto's not getting enough. No way this happens. They like Kapanen and Komarov for their future.
