What I would pay for Patrik Laine

Created by: sensonfire
Team: 2021-22 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 17, 2021
Published: Apr. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In this trade, Columbus' critical needs at centre are taken care of.

Although Laine has way more upside than White at RW, White can play centre while Laine can not.

Ottawa trades away players they wanted to get rid of anyway.

Laine has performed considerably worse than when he was with Winnipeg.

He is due a qualifying offer of 7.5 million this summer.

This trade gives Columbus a way out.

It also gives Columbus an opportunity to immediately address their needs at centre that they have neglected for so long.

I know I'm going to receive a lot of heat for this but it's part of being an ACGM :)

Let me know your thoughts and I'll see you in the comments :D

This isn't even close, but I honestly wouldn't pursue him very aggressively. I think CBJ is best off just keeping him and finding a coach that will allow him to do his thing, not try and turn him into a power forward or whatever Torts is doing. Laine will be fine.

Laine's play this year is insulting.

How do you think Torts feels about his play?

Can you imagine the conversation Jarmo would have with ownership: "I know I traded our 1C for a RW, but I think the best thing for our organization is to trade that RW for a 1C". He emerges from that meeting unemployed.

Jarmo needs to ride this one out.

To be fair torts is trying to turn him into something he’s not. his value is definitely down but Laine will never be a two way player or drive play himself. Needs a passing center to succeed in an offensive minded system

True. Five seasons into his career Laine is probably past making big changes in the way he plays. Since he continues to get paid there isn't a big incentive for him to change his play as he is being rewarded for it.

Yes jarmo was trying to run pld out of town. Lol smh
He didn’t want to move him his hand was forced and this was the best return he could have gathered. If there was a move on the table for a real 1c he’d do it.

Yeah he’s pretty much a young mike Hoffman. I think he’d benefit from playing in montreal, Florida , or Ottawa.

You really didn't understand what I typed. If you were ownership, would you tolerate him giving up on Laine? Of course not.

What are you talking about. If we have a chance at a 1c you take it. Ownership has trusted jarmo before with hard calls. Especially if the relationship is strained already which many outside of Columbus are citing. He’s not selling him off for scraps. Everyone in the world knows Columbus needs centers And if we have a chance at a great one. Any org would part with laine for it. Don’t get so uptight about “giving up on him” when it would be an upgrade. (Insert passive aggressive retort about comprehension for edgy effect)

I can't see Kekkalainen admitting the Laine trade was a failure. Anyway, have a good weekend.

Um. No they're not. There's not a single top-6 C in that package. There's two middle-6 fill-in guys and an often-injured prospect - or, IOW, more of the same sorts of folks we're playing with right now.
