What bad contracts on your team would you trade for these ones

Created by: DropMcCockiner

Description
Everyone team has some high cap hits that are anchors for their team, who does you team have on a bad contact that you would trade for one of these two? Yeah price can still play but he’s probably not a top 10 goalie the last few years, and I would imagine someone playing sled hockey would be quicker than Shea Weber

If I remember correctly, you can buy out Weber and if F@ks over NSH not MTL.. Maybe EK65 could be returned for Price. It’s the only possibility I see

Nobody is taking any of those contracts unless you're adding Caufield and multiple 1sts

They changed that rule so it’s not as bad

And that was for retirement recapture, not buy out.

Its the retirement that kills NSH. The total amount that gets recaptured is the same, but the amount in any given season can't be above the AAV. The old doomsday scenario was if Weber retired one year before expiry and then NSH would have a $24 million cap hit over 1 year. With the new rule, the doomsday scenario is spread out so the max yearly recapture is $7.86 million, but that goes on until the $24 million is paid off.

Weber will be tradable in 1-2 years, Stepan was worth a 2nd round pick because he was making 2M, Weber will make 1M the last 3 years ! We could get something off value for him

but stepan only had 1 year left, the 3 years at 8m for weber will be a huge turn off

Not for a team who needs to reach the salary floor + Weber is still consider a good leader around the league. Anyway I think he retires before the end of is contract in MTL

i mean theres probably more effective ways to reach the cap floor than taking on 8m in cap for 3 years

I think the ideal acquiring team would be one in the early stages of a rebuild in the 2022-23 season or later. They could benefit by accumulating futures in exchange for taking on the large cap hit while only paying a fraction of that in real money. Probably won't be any of the current rebuilding teams but when you see a franchise hitting reset in a couple of years, you have a target. It is a very small target market.

yeah theres *maybe* a market but as of rights now i cant see one unless a team goes full scored-earth like the sens did and have like 8 ELC's in their lineup at once

Completely agree. Right now there are no takers, as it isn't attractive transaction until 2022-23.

Weber is broken down at 35. He'll retire in a 1-2 yrs when his salary goes to 1million per year without bonuses. All the bonuses have been paid. He has little reason to continue at say 37 yrs of age and thus the Habs have even less reason to buy him out.

Contract isnt a problem whatsoever
