Seattle Kraken Mock Draft With Trades

Created by: Tyler_A10
Team: 2021-22 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 17, 2021
Published: Apr. 18, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am only using Dallas as Seattle so I can use the trading part of ACGM as opposed to just having a roster listed and im using Dallas because they own all their own picks rn.
My protection and expansion list will be available here. https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/442033
Anaheim: Josh Manson
Arizona: Adin Hill (I would simulate a deal where Arizona trades a pick to keep Hill, but Arizona is low on draft capital this year after already forfeiting/trading/drafting evil people in the first 4 rounds last year)

Calgary: Recieve a 2021 EDM 3rd round pick in exchange for not selecting Dillon Dube, select Spokane Native Derek Ryan
Carolina: Warren Foegele
Chicago: Calvin De Haan
Colorado: Andre Burakovsky
Columbus: Gustav Nyquist
Dallas: Anton Khudobin
Detroit: Evgeny Svechnikov

Montreal: Recieve a 2021 WAS 3rd round pick in exchange for not selecting Jake Allen, select Jake Evans
Nashville: Recieve a 2021 3rd round pick and a 2022 2nd round pick for not selecting Luke Kunin and for taking on the contract of Matt Duchene, select Matt Duchene

I did have Backlund protected, his contract is a lot but his offensive production just seemed to be too much to leave unprotected.

I see Dube being a huge part of this core in the future thats why I am hesitant to just expose him. If Lucic waives it would fix both problems

That's why I had the protection deal put in place a third round pick and seattle selects a UFA

Why would the Habs pay to get rid of Evans and not one of Chiarot, Edmundson, Byron or Weber? That makes no sense! Even losing Allen for nothing is better than paying to get rid of Evans

    If I'm Calgary I think I go:

    Lindholm
    Tkachuk
    Gaudreau
    Monahan
    Dube
    Mangiapane
    Phillips
Lucic accepts to waive, not selected

Backlund is very good, but long term Phillips could be a steal

    1. Edmunson is awesome and I will hear no debate, he was easily protected by Montreal
    2. They'd have to pay a lot more to swallow the Byron or Weber contract
    3. The deal was not to select evans, but simply to not select allen, Seattle got to pick whoever was left over

Why pay to protect Allen though? We have Primeau who is ready for a larger role anyway.

Because Price has been shaky recently and you need a quality backup to make sure hes at his best

Actually Primeau would be a 1B with Price as 1A. Or we sign a FA again in the summer

You think MIN is gonna pay 2 firsts for you to take Rask but NSH only pays a 2nd and 3rd to get out of that Duchene contract? 1yr of $4M vs 5yr at $8M. Both have similar PPG this year.

    This is so bad
Philly only gives up a 6th to move gost but rangers give up a 2nd round pick to move ADA who’s buyout is almost nothing???
Min pays 2 1st to move rask but Nashville moves way less to move duchene lol

The difference in those deals is that the minnesota deal is also to protect Matt Dumba, which is the real reason that deal is happening. That’s why the price is higher. It’s also not 2 really firsts. It’s one first and a trade out of the early second into the late first.
The Duchene trade is 2 picks at the combined value of a first as a second and third. So I think the deals are more fair than you originally assumed.

Ghost has been better this year than before so the sweetener is lower than necessary. I forgot how small the deangelo buyout is, regardless Will Cuylle sucks.
As I said on a different post. The Minnesota and Nashville deals are closer in value than meets the eye. First, the Nashville deal is a second and third which is around the value of a late first. Second, the Minnesota deal is not just to select Victor Rask, one first is included because they’re not taking Matt Dumba. The other first is actually a trade up into the late first from the early second. And that is the price they pay specifically for the Rask contract. Regardless, an early second and a 4th is around the value of a late first and that’s going back to Minnesota in this deal.

COL isn’t going 4-4-1. They are going 7-3-1 and Johnson waives because 1 Seattle isn’t going to pick him, 2 if he won’t he gets bought out. The protection is MacK, Mikko, Landy, Kadri, Burakovsky, and probably Nichushkin and Jost. Makar, Girard, Toews and Grubauer.

also Dube > Ryan and a third

There's already chatter of them paying to protect Allen, I've heard it from the pundits and ppl like Arpon Basu.
Their cap situation isnt great next year if they can get Seattle to take Chiarot or Byron, it would be a boon so they can sign Tatar, Danault and Armia along with the bonus overages that they'll have to deal with

Dumba gets protected 4-4-1. It’s to keep Greenway who’s value isn’t that much. MIN might just let Greenway go with Rossi and Boldy coming soon. Also a 2nd and 3rd doesn’t get a 1st.

There is so much wrong with this where to start? Most of the players you have drafted are going to be protected by their respective teams. As a Jackets fan I know Nyquist will be protected. Zero chance he isn’t protected. I believe Carolina would deal Foegele before leaving him unprotected and losing him for nothing. Those trades are not happening. It will cost teams significantly to get out from under bad contracts.

Landy doesn’t need protection as he is a pending UFA. If he signs an extension before the expansion draft he would but currently he does not.

Yeah but they aren’t going to let Seattle have an exclusive negotiating window and to do something dumb like 8x9. But even if they did that the Avs are going to go 7-3-1 to get to protect 2 extra guys because Burakovsky although streaky is a 20 goal scorer anchors the 2nd power play and can play left and right wing. It also allows them to force the Kraken to draft a player they designate which is almost 100% going to be Graves, Compher or Donskoi. I saw you protected Francouz and Graves and I’ll tell you imo Seattle isn’t drafting someone that missed the entire year (Francouz), and Colorado is loaded on defense, with a healthy Byram Graves is the 5th defenseman, with a healthy EJ he is the 6th, and with Timmins getting another pro season it isn’t unrealistic to think he is the 7th dman throw in Barron and Helleson being available before Graves contract is up and you have the nicest little piece to dangle before Seattle. But again all just my opinion, and thanks for going through all the work and posting.

Because Price has been shaky recently and you need a quality backup to make sure hes at his best

What are you talking about? Price has had one rough game in his first back from injury. Allen needs to move no matter what, we can’t afford to be allocating that much money towards a backup. I’d be willing to pay to move Chiarot if we trade Allen separately, but the last person I’d want Seattle to choose is Evans. His league minimum contract and position as a C makes him very valuable to the habs.

Dumo and Motte were left unprotected, then unwanted by Seattle, now available for late picks?
    NJD would hit that bid.
