When Eichel gets traded Buffalo fans will be really butt hurt because the return isn’t every top prospect

I really have believed for a while that Buffalo is not going to get the kind of return they want for Eichel and it really just has to do with teams just not wanting to gut their roster to get him.

How would Eichel be in a better situation if a team has to gut it's roster to aquire him? The short answer is he wouldn't be.

This is why I believe that if Eichel gets traded, it won't be for the ransom of players some people think Buffalo will get.

Agreed for Eichel

As for Kreids, well I've been saying it for a while now: if we knew we were getting Lafrenière, I'm 100% sure we would've moved Kreids at the 2020 TDL

I agree and disagree.

At the same time I think you're right, the return will not become one of the top hauls ever paid in hockey business like some BUF fans tend to think.

But at the same token, I don't necessarily think that NYR or LA offering one of their top prospects which they have multiple of, a replacement center, some other prospects and some picks would gut that roster as you put it.

My personal gut feeling is that should NYR make a trade for Eichel, it'd look something like this

New York Rangers
Jack Eichel
Tage Thompson
2021 3rd round pick

Buffalo Sabres
Kaapo Kakko
Ryan Strome
Nils Lundkvist
2021 1st round pick
2022 2nd round pick

I originally thought that NYR should've included Chytil as well in the exchange instead of that 2nd - but after Strome playing yet another good season, I'm starting buy him as an actual top-6 center with some good value.

But in all honesty, such offer wouldn't break that roster. Eichel would literally fill the hole Strome leaves, and NYR already has a surplus of wingers and RHDs they can use fill the holes moving Kakko and Lundkvist would create long-term.

Not the point of this post but the contract that fascinates me is Shesterskin.

I really suspect it could be a good contract AND he's well established internationally, but he only has 38 NHL games and that's a lot of money and term.

I suspect id make the same offer but it's a damn unique situation

I hope Gorton gives another huge contract this offseason to mess up the Rangers future

I find that offer unreasonable and wouldn’t help us at all. I don’t want Eichel if that’s what it takes. We’re literally better off doing nothing than making such a crap deal and ruining the team.

Thank you. I don’t want that garbage attitude near the young core we’ve got developing.

Ruining the team is a bit harsh take considering that the only thing you lose here from your current roster is Kakko. And for now he has not been a significant force in your success. The guy has played there for two years now and hasn't even scored 20 goals yet.

Eichel will take Stromes slot an add to the production of other players quite a lot.

Eichel won’t be traded if you are not gutting something. Either you’ll gut your prospects or your roster to varying degrees. The Sabres have zero need to trade Eichel. Even if he asks to leave we still don’t have to.

I don’t care for Eichel. Great player, but I don’t think he’s needed. Plus Nils is projected to be a beast. Not trading him right now at all. All Eichel has done is score, but the culture in Buffalo has poisoned him. I’d rather not add that to our locker room. Plus his contract is very prohibitive long term when it comes to us resigning our young guys. I’d be pissed if we got him honestly.

Certainly an interesting take, I give you that much.

I personally disagree. I'd absolutely want a top level center on my team. If there's a slight chance of Eichel turning into a next O'Reilly, I'd be all for it.

But you do you.

If he doesn’t, you’ve got a $10 mil anchor for a guy who’s never seen the playoffs or broken 90 points yet. I’d rather not take that chance.

Broken 90 points, huh? You've set a high bar for the guy.

Even Matthews hasn't reached that far.

He’s overpaid as well. Only guy who deserves that kind of money is McDavid.

No thanks on that trade and if we take eichels 10mil how do we afford zibby next year?

Beats me, but obviously Gorton would do some corresponding moves after any potential Eichel trade, no matter which players are involved.

So be it, let him sit and waste 4 years of his career sitting at home. We can just suspend him without pay and refuse to void his contract. I can’t imagine a competitive person like Eichel being willing to sit out 4 years to try to work over the team who drafted him. It may hurt our cap but I’d rather eat that and keep my pride and dignity than take garbage from another team like we did for ROR

He could always go to Russia. Wouldn't make as much but still technically an option. The Sabres would never let it get to that point.
