  1. Boqvist, Jesper
  2. Zacha, Pavel
Additional Details:
Fitz has said he would move a centre to acquire a scoring winger..... which mean Zacha. He is starting to come into is own, and long term will provide an excellent option on the 3rd unit - although Isee 2nd line. Has the size to be a useful in front of net presence in the PP. Acquisition gives Flames options.

Boquist will help fill out a reconstructed bottom 6. Although top 6 potential is there, see him as the 30-40 point guy that can provide secondary scoring.

In Gaudreau, Devils so get a dynamic winger who should fit beautifully with Hughes or Hirscher - both of whom we can safely say are upgrades on Monahan or Lindholm. Yes, Flames are giving up an offensive catalyst, but things must be shook up here.

End of the day - Devils get a 90 point winger, Flames get a proven NHL centre with size and a ceiling not reached, an other youngster with potential.... and cost control.
NJD
  1. Gaudreau, Johnny
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
***conditional 3rd, based on Boquist's performance***

****deal is done after expansion draft, and after July 1st, as Johnny signs an extension making this a "sign and trade "****
2.
CGY
  1. Bemström, Emil
  2. Texier, Alexandre [RFA Rights]
  3. 2021 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Ok......

Jackets seek an impact centre, and Monahan is still that (noting I would sooner move Backlund here, but the rwturn would lack). To get a Monohan, there is a price tag. Jacket are in a position to pay it.

Bemstörm has a tonne for skill, and has some sandpaper in his game. Can play centre or wing, and has top six potential. Starts out on the 3rd line, but should play his way up without issue.

Texier will likely flip to the wing. But I an see Sutter using his speed as an advantage in the forecheck to create opportunities. Has a high ceiling, and although his defensive game needs work still.

Gotta get a 1st here (not Adams!), but recognizing the potential in the players here, moving a 3rd is something I do.

If Gaudreau wanted to sign and trade to NJD, couldn't we just wait a year and sign him for nothing?

One might say that, but maybe not. Devils are in pretty good shape. Moving a 24 year old Zacha for a 27 year old winger who can pot 90 points (maybe 100 playing with Hughes) is something Fitz thinks about I would say.

There is no guarentee he would sign in Jersey..... this is a sure land. Why Fitz might do it.

Certainly open to it.
What would be his contract extension?

Both those trades are terrible for calgary. It’s crazy how terrible those trades are. The flames easily decline both and block both teams numbers. Both those trades are pure trash. It doesn’t even come remotely close to getting either of gaudreau or monahan. Flames very very very very easily decline. But the gaudreau trade is extremely terrible for calgary, it is crazy how far off that trade is, the flames laugh so hard when they get offered that gaudreau trade.

I would say $6.5-7 million over 6 years.

If he seeks more than that, I walk away and Fitz keeps Zacha.

Johnny can produce, but the last couple years in Calgary have hurt his value.

Value wise I would do this trade. But im not sure Johnny is the best fit. Depending on how much the extension is, I would do this trade

I disagree..... Zacha is 2nd line material. Texier and Bemström have all sorts of top 6 potential.

Do you think you're getting a big shiny name like Byfield for Monahan? His production has dropped 2 years running.

Gaudreau's playoff performances are legendary.

If the Flames wanna win, you have to male a change. What is there isn't working. If you think it is, you are in denial.

I am curious lol. Think they are 100% undervaluing what a 6'2" 220lbs centre and Sutter could do together lol

Zacha: 39 gp 10g 15a 25pts
Monahan: 42 gp, 9g 16a 25pts

Scoring, possession, defensive ...
They have similar numbers this year.
Monahan has more of track record, but is also older and more expensive.

The price for Zacha really shouldn’t be that far off the price for Monahan.

Agree.

My Monahan deal is more about young players with upside - which both have. The 1st is hopefully a player with upside.

But, if Monahan were moved for an established NHLer...... and they needed a centre - as the position does increase value - your sniffing around a Connor Garland type.

Laine for Dubois says everything......

The Flames absolutely need a 1st in a Gaudreau trade.

They got a 2nd for a bottom 6er in Bennett.

Bennett is cheaper, has more years of team control.
Blake Coleman got more than Taylor Hall. Same reason.

If Calgary gets to next season with Gaudreau still on books, his NTC kicks in, which would limit his return.

Bennett has 1 more year of team control and then he's a UFA.

They will get a 1st for Gaudreau, or they will keep him it's as simple as that.

Most fans will be underwhelmed at what they get for Gaudreau, I will admit that, but a 1st will likely be the headliner.

Well first things first. Calgary's not rebuilding, our goalie is signed for 5 more seasons at 6M with a full NMC. Thats like saying Florida should have rebuilt after last year.

As for the trades:
Very easy no to the Devils trade, I lile Zacha but he's definitely more of a 3rd line center than 2C. Boqvist is struggling a lot.
I would probably consider the CBJ trade but I dont really get why you think Calgary is rebuilding and Columbus isn't.

Boqvist needs a change of scenery for sure. Too much skill and speed not to produce. I am guessing he gets moved this off-season.

Zacha is a strange one. When he plays wing, he produces like a top-line wing (for the Devils, at least). But when he plays 2C or 3C the scoring goes down considerably. Hard to read how other teams would view him (as top-6 winger or as middle-six Center).

I’d rather not move tex out for Sean. I think tex has the upside to be as good as Monahan with the right players. He looks like a stud in spurts of a few games on top of the world and a few where he looks lost. If he can find that consistency he’ll be an impact player in this league. We should nurture that instead of bringing someone in for a few years as a stop gap. I could see a guy like foudy being moved out. A guy who has that upside but hasent shown it in this league yet.

I would rather have a 1st.

Zacha is a very good player but my feeling is the Flames are closer to a total rebuild than they are a Stanley Cup. I'd like to see them start to accumulate picks. Nothing against Zacha though.

If it were from the Devils, would probably be Islanders 1st (that we got in Palmieri deal) since Devils 1st will be top-5.

Well, in game 1 as a Panther he looked like a legit top 6 forward.

As for the 1st - certainly if the deal didn't include Zacha. So, that would be a make a choice situation.

Great feedback with evidence! Thanks!

Solid feedback - and I agree with your assesment.... why I wanted him lol.

The Jackets are at a crossroads imo. If the plunge into a retool (there is enough there to call it that), I suspect they move Laine and call it a mulligan. If he stays, I do wonder if they dive into finding anityer centre.

Arguements for both side there.

Once again, great feedback and appreciate it.

I see the same thing. But, Zacha being only 24, one could argue he would be part of the team if the build is done right.

Why I moved Gaudreau and Monahan - seeing that change is needed. If picks are preferred, whatever. Think we see what we see here..... it isn't working.

Yes.... I have noticed Zacha's production on the wing as well. Maybe that is where he belongs🤷‍♂️. If that's the case, Gaudreau is unnecessary really. A line of Zacha-Hughes-Bratt would look good. Moving the focus to secondary scoring- which comes at a lesser cost.

Boquist absolutely needs a change. Not sure if I see him as a top 6 forward (as I elduded to), but a 3rd liner at 40 points I think is in him. Clearly that isn't happening in Jersey.....

Thanks for the feedback though!

I think one of Gaudreau and Monahan will be moved in the summer, maybe both.

I don't think the returns for either would be very impressive, I think Gaudreau would have more interest than Monahan though.

For Gaudreau, I think it would be something like the Hall from NJ to ARI deal. 1st and 3rd as well as a pair of decent prospects. Lots of Flames fans would be disappointed, but I think that is about what we can expect.
With Monahan I'd kind of look at the Duchene from OTT to CBJ deal. 1st and a pair of decent prospects.

It doesn't make the Flames necessarily any better, but at LW they can go Tkachuk and Mangiapane in their top 6 and at C they can go Lindholm and Backlund down the middle, while stocking up on some futures. I think it would be a mistake for the Flames to look for "hockey deals", because they aren't getting an equal talent to Gaudreau and you're just holding off the inevitable, which is stockpiling picks because I do think the Flames are very close to being a team that needs a rebuild.

You could very well be right.

The Devils are deep down the middle which may allow them to make a deal as proposed, but, the same deal.could be made for a 1st, Merkley and Boquist idea.

For me moving foward, Tkachuk and Lindholm have been great. Dube as all sorts of potential. In the system.... Emilio Petterson could turn out to be a steal, while guys like Prosipil and Ruzsika look to form a decent 4th line (maybe 3rd). The 2nd line has misfired for 3 years. Clear some space. Fill some gaps..... but the system in Calgary is not great overall. Lacks D depth and tending.

Moving Monahan, I had that idea. Now, as it's been pointed out, my ask was mybe lofty, but still, a 1st with a solid prospect (circle back to Bemström or Loudy) certainly fits the bill.

Backlund as a 2nd line centre is solid enough if the RW is filled out with a short term solution allowing sheltered minutes down the line.

Something as to give. This team on paper is good. On the ice - the chemistry is terrible.
