Next Season FIRE BOB

Created by: jfrojelin
Team: 2021-22 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 18, 2021
Published: Apr. 18, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
He is so not a good coach. He sticks it to young guys but does not keep the same attitude if you're over the age of thirty. No consistency.

Also his defensive structure sucks and it cannot defend teams that succeed in corners.

Play the kids, unlike what Bob insists on doing. It's so dumb

So you would Vlasic and Eriksson just sitting around and doing nothing with a combined cap hit of 13M. That’s just 13M of dead cap which could be used for better players like Hertl. If I’m the Canucks I take that deal and run, cause then they have more cap space for Hughes and Petterson

Can’t see Dallas being interested, we already have Benn, Rads, Gurianov, JRob, Pavs in our top 9. Donato would block up guys like Dellandrea who would make our top 9 next year, maybe as a centre or a winger. He would fit better with other teams.

Eriksson expires after this season. So that has no impact on Hertl, Ferraro, Leonard etc who need extension after this. Vlasic is unmovable, so I'd rather we coerce him into retirement or play a kid than have his horrid play still exist.

I'm not sure the price on Eriksson, so that's why I didn't ask for a first. Regardless it gives us assets.

makes sense. I was trying to think of a team that may miss the playoffs but will be looking to return to it soon, and Donato probably wouldn't fit with Torts in CBJ so I went there.

CBJ wouldn’t pull this, most likely. They have enough bottom-six forwards.

I love how Bob torched Labanc and Meier (deserved btw) but hasn’t said a peep about Couture playing like absolute garbage lately. That was kind of a joke to me.

When you look at the math, I don't see how you can NOT buy Vlasic out this summer. He stays on the books for five more years, but at a reduced cap hit of $1,833,333 for each of them, and you get a reduced cap hit for each of the five years now remaining on his contract. Specifically, in 2022, you'll have $3.1 million more in cap room than with Vlasic's $7 million cap hit, which might come in handy for re-signing Hertl, Ferraro and Knyzhov, among others. Meanwhile, he's owed $34.25 million in real money, and you'll pay only $25,083,333 over time, $9,166,667 of which will be in post-2025 dollars, and you'll save a similar amount in actual cash. This seems like a no-brainer to me.

The cap for the future is so unknown, making decisions that far in the future are super scary

Also the optics of buying out a contract you gave out three seasons ago are horrid, could cost DW his job

Depends on where the team as a whole wants to go. If we want to attempt to contend (which at this point is silly in my opinion) buying him out probably makes the most sense unless there is a CBO expected in the near-ish future. But if the org accepts that this team simply isn't ever gonna be a legit contender with the core we have and they rebuild, there's no harm in sitting on that contract and waiting till a later date to buy him out. But barring Vlasic's retirement, or a CBO like previously mentioned, I'd expect to see him bought out within 1-3 years.
