I don’t think Palat has played center in over a decade, if ever. It’s a very Czech team you’ve got going on.

Overpaying djoos and erne, underpaying hronek and bertuzzi. No to both trades, it's not needed for a team that's rebuilding.

We can sign similar players in the offseason or fleece teams that have cap issues and need to dump players and pay us to take them. Bobby Ryan is fine, no to bringing back lgd and no to forsberg.

Vrana might be a better fit at center. Or Nosek, if Vegas needs cap space as badly as Tampa, but Palat is better than Nosek, overall.

I thought I was already fleecing them. Are you expecting more Panik moves? It could happen next deadline, sure, but not in the offseason when lots of teams have cap space, and not if the cap looks like it will go up again once everybody is vaccinated and arenas are all selling out.

What team do you see ending up in that situation again, and when?

What I mean is we are paying for both kempny and palat. Tampa is forced to pay someone to take their players, we wouldn't pay to take an aging player with many years back. We are not giving up any draft picks for any veteran players. Yzerman is obsessed with draft picks and stated many times he won't be moving them. We aren't competing for a cup next year. He traded mantha because he won't be in his prime by the time we are going to be competitive, he wouldn't want 2 older than mantha players who will be way out of their prime for picks. What I'm talking about is gaining an asset to take loui erikson from Vancouver type of deals. He's only signed for 1 more year and we will get picks and prospects for that type of move. Plenty of teams are going to be up against the cap and we will be able to broker those type of deals. Yzerman isn't trading picks to help other teams salary relief at this time. Both trades make 0 sense for the wings, they are going to be playing their kids and make a couple of trades for assets and sign a few guys like they did this offseason to be more competitive. 1-2 year deals max. Unless tampa and wash are paying us to take those players we aren't interested

Vrana has the skating of a center but he doesn’t have enough defensive awareness or active stick for me to say he’d ever be a center in the NHL let alone the experience required to be one. Nosek isn’t anything but a bottom six center, I’m pretty familiar with him as he’s been on the two teams I follow. If you wanted specifically a Czech center then you can look at a short term deal with Krejci this offseason or Fabbri/Ras can fill that role. As @buffbry stated you overpaid Djoos a bunch and Erne a little bit here. I’d also look at upgrading that goalie situation, Forsberg isn’t the solution there and there are a ton of quality net minders (eg Ullmark, Grub, Bernier) hitting FA this offseason. I also don’t think Raymond will start in the NHL but maybe some like Berggren, who actually would really compliment Vrana.

I actually don’t mind the Palat + Kempny deals as they’d easily be flipped at the TDL for a good return and also help our youngsters for the season.

I just think we can make those teams pay us to take them instead of the other way around. Especially tampa is in real trouble cap wise with kucherov coming back full time. They are going to have to dump tj+ another big piece. I don't mind the players, just think that we would want to get paid instead of us paying them

I don't think Vrana or Yzerman wants to jump into a 7yr deal after 15 games. I think Bertuzzi gets over $5M and signs for 5 years. Hronek gets more if he signs a 5yr deal. I think $2M is more likely for Erne. Smith gets $1M. If Detroit thinks Cholowski can be a full time NHL defensemen in Detroit he will certainly get more money. But I think Yzerman trades him before offering him less than $1M. I do think Detroit needs to bring in a center and If Palat could play center I wouldn't be opposed but it's not very likely. I think Detroit is done trying to play wingers at center. They will want a true center especially if they are giving up assets to get him. I don't mind Kempný but by the time the season starts it will be over a year since he has played a game in the NHL. Almost an identical situation to what the Wings went through with DeKeyser and it wasn't pretty at the start and he's still struggling. So I don't think Yzerman brings him to Detroit.

Vrana played a year in Sweden and could work well with Swedish centers mentioned, like he played well with Backstrom. Not sure about Zadina. Djoos (who is Swedish and could work better with some Swedish kids) could get 2.5 as a UFA because he's a defenseman currently on a 24 point pace who has won a Cup, but teams would have to be comfortable hoping that his plus/minus improves with a change of scenery. That often works, though.

An Eriksson plus 1st for nothing deal sounds great and there's still room for it above. Absolutely. Also possible at next year's deadline: James Neal. Room for both above, partly because Forsberg is cheap, and if Murray comes back I'm not sure Ottawa offers him anything. I think if Tampa wants to move Palat or Johnson in the offseason, there are going to be a dozen teams ready to give a late pick. If Detroit wants to flip either of those guys next deadline, they get a 2nd and a B prospect. Maybe more. In the meantime, Zadina and Hronek have played a year with three guys who have won Cups and speak their native language. Is it enough to carry the above team to the playoffs? Probably not. That's going to have to come from the younger guys improving and the top guys staying healthy.

I will say I'm not sure on Kempny's trade value until we see him in the playoffs. He's missed the whole season so far, so it's tough to say whether he's really worth a guy who just cleared waivers AND a minor league leader. But given there's a 50 contract limit and neither seems to be in Detroit's NHL plans, I kinda see the Wings liking both sides of that deal.
