What Will They Do

Description
Disclaimer: Not a Tampa fan so please let me know if certain players should be getting looks more or not. I also tend to go a bit overboard in filling out the depth, but I think a contending team would make similar moves. Mostly curious what Tampa fans think of McDonagh being taken, signings like Elliott, Coleman, Cole. Always appreciate feedback.

Protected: Stamkos, Kucherov, Point, Cirelli, Hedman, Cernak, Foote, Sergachev, Vasilevskiy. McDonagh could be an attractive pick for the Kraken as a veteran minute eating defenseman. Could involve draft picks as well, but this is just to represent this scenario.

McDonagh at 6.75m X 5 years, starting when he's 32 years old, seems too much too swallow for Seattle. If McDonagh plays for Tampa and Stamkos is medically fit, that's a lotta cap to jettison.

I also just can’t see Johnson on the team next year. Clearly some young times are ready to take over his spot and he’s been rough this year

I think Tampa will try and make a deal to have Seattle take McD, but they will also be moving Johnson via trade with retention or a buy out. They likely also trade one of Palat or Killorn for some value. Coleman may get kept but Goodrow is a higher priority imo(and cheaper). Coleman likely gets overpaid by another team and leaves, and Tampa should use any money they have after those moves to try and re-sign Savard or another solid #4 RD. A 3LD like Cole or Kulikov should be the plan though at that position.

Based this contract off of others with similar pedigrees and contracts like Phil Myers, I agree that it may be too much but its what I feel like he'd get if he's been playing regularly this year. I agree that they wanna move Johnson, but I just wonder if they can seeing how it went this year.

Because of the cap issues for next year, I can’t see them giving Foote anything more than 1.2 million. This year he’s been in and out of the lineup and while he’s been in the lineup he hasn’t been great.

Ah ok, I thought he was playing more often for some reason, but with that in mind his contract is probably less then yes. Probably needed a bit more time in the AHL and the cap crunch forced him in too quickly.
