Attempt at a Blowup

Description
Not a Flames fan, so I am curious what you guys think of both the returns and free agent signings, as well as if there are any prospects that should be getting looks. I was considering trying to trade out Backlund too but I think that may be extremely hard to do with his contract, as well as no obvious replacement.

Philly declines. Voracek is alone more valuable than Giordano.

I think you can’t be serious
1. Tanev contract is fine
2. ANA probably takes that
3. 1 year of Gaudreau for Boqvist and a 1st I doubt
4. One of the worse trade have seen in here. Philly GM laugh to death at the phone

Tanev contract is very good, it only looks bad if he gets injured (which he has not yet). As long as Markstrom is a longterm member of the Flames they arent rebuilding either

I'm skeptical of Gaudreau after some of his playoff struggles but NJ would have to take this offer no questions asked.

'Some of his' playoff struggles? Points wise he's totally on par just one down 'year' and... it was a 5 game sample size. That just seems very tricky tacky 🤨

His playoff pts per game is a little down relatively

But then again it's only a 30 game sample size overall

It's odd to see such contentment here with the Tanev contract given him being 31 especially I mean his results already aren't good and he's poised for decline

He's in the 28th percentile of expected Goals Against

Granted quite tough deployment but like gosh

Among D pairs with 250+ mins toi the Hanifin-Tanev pair is 8th in CF%, 2nd in xGF%, and 3rd in HDCF%. You sure you're looking at this year's stats? He's literally been one of maybe 3 Flames that haven't been dog**** this year

Depends if Johnny signs an extension. If not, then it wouldn't make sense for NJ to pay that much for 1 year of Johnny G

Like I said, I always appreciate feedback, but you don't have to be rude lmao. Let me address this one by one:

1.) Its not that Tanev is bad, its that he is 31 being paid 4 million for 3 years and has had serious injury issues in the past. If you're Seattle, why take that when there are younger defensemen like Kylington available?
2.) I'm glad you think so, though it seems you're implying it means it is bad. The fact is that Monahan's value may not be what we all think it should be, I think that's been evidenced by some of the trades we've seen recently like Hall for a 2nd, Coleman for a 1st, etc.
3.) Again, I mentioned I think NJ would be interested in extending if it goes well as he is from NJ and not too old that he can help out their core. You could imagine maybe some other prospects thrown in, I'm not super familiar with Devils prospects so I didn't want to speculate.
4.) As a Philly fan, it may not be the "best" trade, but Fletcher has basically said there will be big changes to the lineup in the offseason: this is a big change. Getting rid of Ghost or our depth players isn't a big move, trading a Voracek or someone else from the core is. I just chose Voracek because I think that his value is more interesting to Calgary than say JVR as all the other Flyers mock trades like to use.

Yeah I agree for sure. I think there is a decent chance he could sign one, but good point.

I agree nominally, but based on Chuck and AV saying the lineup will look different next year, I think a core member COULD be moved, and Voracek is the most valuable of those they'd be willing to move. I think the flat cap could play a role too, one year of Gio vs. 3 of Voracek. But yes, I agree Voracek is still good.

I answered this before but Tanev's contract isn't BAD and neither is he, there's just no reason to take it given his injury history as Seattle with a younger player available imo. Much better veteran defensemen available from other teams. As for your second point, perhaps but I think with the contracts of these three especially coming up and the existing frustration, its gonna be tempting to fire the GM and retool.

If Philly would trade Voracek for Giordano who has 1 year left I think flames should be adding something. You can still get maybe 2 good seasons from Voracek. Giordano is probaply gonna retire after his contract ends looking at how he has regressed already. I don't expect him to be good anymore next season with him regressing so quickly.
