Ask yourself: "If I give up a so/so dman on a not-so-great contract, and a "Meh" prospect who profiles as a bottom 6 guy, can I get a 20 year old, former 5 OA pick, and a bottom 6 depth-y guy?"

Even if he doesn't fit hes still a high upside C whose likely on track to become a good middle 6 center. Just because a player MIGHT not fit doesn't mean they should be traded for pennies

    Hayton > Pettersson

    Crouse > Bjorkqvist

    4th > 5th

If you're getting Hayton and Crouse then Arizona is asking for Poulin + your first

Hayton and Crouse dont get you Poulin + 1st. Doesn't even get you a first.

Crouse is whatever, but Hayton is worth a late first. Poulin will be a fine middle 6 guy but Hayton still has top 6 potential. Pettersson is a decent 4-6 d man but his contract is iffy for that kind of player. All in all it’s not great for ARI, especially when you consider their need on defense is the right side.

Just because Hayton may not be "worth" a first doesn't mean ARI even considers moving him for less, Poulin isnt anything special and neither is a late first.

Were not talking about poulin. Think about it, no team will pay a first for 2 bottom 6 guys, especially not the pens going on a playoff run.

Why does ARI sell low on Hayton? Think about that, especially a team that needs good young centres, hes still 20, his value realistically hasnt dropped at all since he was drafted 5th overall, sure it hasnt gone up but it has not dropped.

Calling Hayton a bottom 6 guy is just trying to justify paying next to nothing for him

Since you are dumping Pettersson contract on them. No it doesnt work.

Coyoytes have been trying to shed salary all year and are trying to accrue draft picks. Moving 2 cost controlled guys for a heavy contract isnt the type of move I see Arizona even considering.

They have some RFAs to sign like Garland that will eat up the majority of their cap space of the internal budget they set. Pettersson doesnt help that situation

Hayton should not have been drafted 5, let’s start with that premise. If the yotes had drafted him at say 15, are we even having this conversation? Probably not and the OP doesn’t even know who Hayton is in that scenario.

I’d like to see the Wild build a package for him, I’m thinking Menell and Khovanov as the base since I think there is something there. But it does need to be recognized that his performance has lagged behind where you want a first round pick to be. I am not fond of how the yotes have developed prospects in the past which is why I want to get him out. But your point about needing to get real value for him is important to recognize.

100% agree with you. But I would argue since they overdrafted him that makes it even less likely they move him so soon after picking him.

If he was being shopped I could see so many teams lining up for him, to the point this offer doesnt even get looked at (Even though it already doesnt get considered). Minny, Buffalo, Detroit, Anaheim, San Jose, Edmonton, Toronto, Columbus, I could probably list 25 teams that would be kicking the tires on Hayton, and no doubt in my mind at minimum 10 teams offer a package with the value of a first rounder +

Minny does seem like almost a perfect fit though

Totally agree about holding on to him to save face. The big change is that Armstrong is a scout and if he can get picks, I think that’s worth more to him than facing constant scrutiny about that one reach pick that isn’t doing what they want. I don’t think MIN gives up a 1st outright for him but a pick swap situation might be in the cards as part of a larger package. They have 2 firsts now and I fully expect them to gain a 3rd after the Dumba trade.

Against the judgment of Rob Blake and real life, your judgment carries the weight of a feather.

Even if Hayton is never more than a #3C, considering Hayton's age, position and length of team control vs. Pettersson's contract:

    Hayton > Pettersson

Crouse >> Bjorkqvist (that part is indisputable)

    4th > 5th (that part is indisputable)

    @Bdawwwgy1 is right.
