I try not to be too harsh on this site, but holy hell is that Colorado trade awful. Strome isn't worth nearly that much.

I feel like I need to explain my view on the strome trade. He is a point per game this year, and a fast player that would fit right in on the avs. If savard and foligno can get firsts and Mantha get his return, then strome can get the value of 2 firsts in my opinion.

Imo Savard and Foligno weren't worth first round picks. They were both worth around a 2nd but with the lack of dman on the market and the leadership Foligno brings, that's why they were slightly overpaid for. Strome is having a good season but every GMs knows he likely won't have the same success on a different team. For the Avs, Strome would be 3C behind Mac and Kadri. No GM, especially Joe Sakic would give a top prospect and a first for Strome. Strome is staring to get overvalued imo

      dude just stop.

When you are getting multiple fan bases and not even including the Avs fans yet dunking on this trade, its bad, really bad
Sakic wouldnt even let CBJ ask about Newhook when they checked in on the Dubois value...you think hes going to trade newhook for Strome. Woof that a stinker of a trade proposal

Strome is not some speed demon, he would not fit in with the Avs bc he cant play Centre, his numbers are inflated playing with Panarain over the past 2 season, and bc desperate GMs made bad trades doesnt mean one of the top front offices in the league in the Avs would do the same.

Do you know who is an exceptional skater, who can play Centre, and would fit in with the Avs....Alex Newhook

Yes, but Newhook isn't just a first - he's a prime prospect. This would be like trading Strome to Montreal for a first and Caulfield, which I wouldn't do either

This is insane on multiple levels. I have been pleasantly surprised by Strome, but stop it.

I think Strome is a good player, one that has benefitted from playing along side Panarin, but has held his own as well. I definitely think he can return something of value, but the Mantha trade is a tough comparison. Because the thought on Mantha is that he has more to give playing with better players on a better team and he has a good amount of term on a 5 and change million AAV. So the caps essentially partially paid for the term/security, rather than keep Vrana who is pending RFA. The caps also paid a little to get rid of Panik. I just dont think you can use that as a fair comp for Strome who is pending UFA. The other two trades i guess are fair, but the market changes during the deadline.

Strome is getting fat on the back of other players. He isn’t a true ppg player, he is in 8 career years a .52ppg player. @coga16 had it right and spot on, you were trying to get Newhook period, because you sure didn’t take into the Avs needs when you put it together. No bueno.

this makes my head to read, why would the avs retain salary, give up Newhook and give away a first for a 3rd liner for us. the avs would hang up once they heard this

Strome has been a play driver on his own this season and has been excellent. His RAPM chart is a career best. His past pedigree however is greatly inflated by linemates and I would be curious to see if this is a complete outlier or his game has matured. Because while I think the trade proposed is a silly over pay by CO, Ryan Strome has been a legit 2C this season. I still think the Rangers should try to sell high, but no need to crap on the guy either.

That’s all reasonable. I think the Rangers would be very wise to sell on Strome now when he has a high value. I’d still argue he isn’t a play driver because he hasn’t been and the demand for him reflects that, but that’s just what I think.
