Description
1. Putting zajac and palmieri in roles they’re not used to has thrown off the lines and is a big reason why the team is not playing well right now. Zajac shouldn’t even be a regular.
2. Dal colle >>> zajac
3. Coburn is one of the worst defenseman I’ve ever seen and that Greene-coburn pairing was a disaster
4. Hickey is a top 5 D on this team; there is no reason why he should be a healthy scratch.
5. Barzal, wahlstrom, Dobson, bellows. They are the only players Trotz calls out in his post game interviews. I wonder where this team would be in the standings without barzal and wahlstrom.

A big reason why the isles have dominated this season is because of their young players contributing. Wahlstrom, Dobson, bellows, and barzal have all singlehandedly won this team games at some point this season. Not putting them in a position to succeed seems counterproductive. This team desperately needs them in order to make a deep playoff run, decreasing their minutes or saddling them with scrubs is a good way to assure a 1st round exit.

Usually would disagree with the MDC > Zajac part, but that line of Dal Colle, Nelson and Palmieri looked pretty good last night. Would be interested in seeing him back in the lineup next game for sure.

Beyond that, I like the lines and d-pairs. Too bad we will never get to see them

dal colle is a great forechecker, where does zajac excel at even strength? I still can't believe that they basically told barzal to switch to lw to accomadate zajac.

Hickey comes in an performs well, then they trade for a worse defenseman to make him the 8D. Hickey deserves better.

Right now, its wahlstrom>MDC>Bellows.

I'm all for playing the young guys but I just don't think bellows is a better option than MDC at this point in the season.

I think that playing with jg and bailey puts him in a good position to succeed. Playing him with guys who can get him the puck and create opportunities. I agree mdc is better overall but hes not going to put up many points. Right now we desperately need scoring and bellows is better suited for that than mdc.

I think for scoring , trotz needs to get his head out of his a** and put our best offensive players in a position to succeed , not rely on bellows to find his game this late in the season.

Get that scrub zajac off of barzal's wing and put beau/palmieri up there. Move wahlstrom to the 2nd line, insert hickey into the lineup (he can move the puck).
Islesforthecup liked this.

There's likely way more in play, but I feel like having to accommodate Zajac is really screwing up a lot in this lineup. Having Barzal at LW so a bottom-6 player is more comfortable is really frustrating to see. I'd live with Barzal's worse faceoff numbers if it means he can get an actual LW up there with him.

face-off % doesn't matter much - only 3 of the last 10 teams who made it to the SCF had a FO% over 50%.

Beau, Palmieri, I'd even break up the 4th line and put cizikas on barzal's wing. Barzal is an established two way center, putting him on a leash with a washed up vet might be one of the bizarre moves ive seen an isles coach make. This is up there with capuano scratching lee in game 7.

2.55 goals saved above expected last night. He's a stud.
