NHL Trade Deadline rules

Created by: exo2769
Team: 2016-17 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 10, 2017

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
How is a player's salary charged against a team's salary cap when a trade is made at the
deadline?

The salary that is charged against a team's cap is the pro rated amount remaining of the
player's average yearly salary. For example, if a player has an average yearly salary of $2 million, the amount charged against the acquiring team's cap is the pro-rated amount remaining of $2 million.

This is calculated by dividing $2 million by the number of days in the season (186). The
amount ($10,753) is then multiplied by the number of days remaining in the season from the day the trade is made (42 days if trade is on Feb. 28) to ascertain the amount charged against the team's cap ($451,613).

Using this logic from the NHL. Mike Fisher would easily fit under the cap considering his salary is $4M and would then pro-rate to $903,226.

Fisher would have to agree to it, but he's going right back to Nashville in the off season. Why not go for the cup. I'm sure his wife will be traveling anyway!

The Preds are still in the playoff hunt so I doubt they do this unless they tank and aren't in playoff position at the deadline. Fisher is an unknown in the Blackhawks style of play too. Bowman has gotten burned a little by trading for players at the deadline that Q won't play.

I can see my response is late, but he's a physical guy that plays the body. Q's seen him enough over the years to say yup or nope. Maybe he does say no, but Q really doesn't like the guys afraid of physicality...unless you kane...that's why he disliked Teuvo.

Oh and this would project them out of the hunt by TDL. That Subban trade is killing them.

A trade like this with a division rival is not happening.
