I think it’s fair to say that the fella is under achieving. A guy making 5.5M$ has to give us more that this. If bought out, his caphit becomes 1.833M$/yr over four years instead of 5.5M$/yr over 2 years. 3.667M$ in savings during those 2 years.

I think it’s time for it.

I think Bergevin would never do it because it makes him looks REALLY bad.

I think it may only be possible if another GM is brought in.

Thoughts?

Why tf would you buy out Drouin?

Definitely not buy him out, but I would love to see another Galchenyuk for Domi situation.

His advanced stats are terrible and he's a floater on the ice, but I think he still has value.

Why wouldn’t you buy him out?

Do you think he has trade value? If so, what is the value of a LW making 5.5M$ with 2 goals and tons of PP time and the worst +/- on the team?

He's still a good player, there's no reason to buy out Drouin

I guess we’ll agree to disagree.

In a cap world, you can’t have 5.5M$ tied up in a player with the numbers I listed earlier

If I were MB, I would seriously consider a buyout, because I don't think Drouin has any trade value at this point really. Keeping that hefty cap hit is going to weigh on this team if Drouin doesn't has some unsanctioned breakout this season

Drouin has always been a good player in Montreal, there's no reason to buy him out. He has a lot of value to our team as a solid top 6 winger. He doesn't need a breakout season to stay, he just needs to be himself and continue to play at a slightly higher than 0.5 ppg pace

Not saying he hasn't been good for the team, it's just that learning of the reason for his extended absence makes me skeptical of how well he is going to perform going forward

What are you talking about? If anything working past his anxiety will very likely improve his game from where it was last year.

I dunno man, did Bobby Ryan come back better after his rehab? Sens still bought him out

He was nearly half a point per game last year, so yes, he did. Also we’re talking about a 26 year old vs. a 33 year old (where there’s bound to be natural regression).

The Senators bought him out because Melnyk is cheap. No other team in the same situation would buy him out, and he clearly worked well in Detroit in spite of Ottawa jettisoning him.

Plus I’m not sure how/if Ryan’s addiction affected his game other than him just missing time. Watching Drouin last year, it was evident that he had no confidence in his own shot whatsoever, forcing the pass even when it was clearly the inferior option. And when he was shooting, it was always only when the passing option wasn’t there, and he would just throw it at the net from low danger areas. He’s at least bound to get better in the goal scoring area, because a 2.6 shooting percentage is clearly an anomaly.

Yeah well, better hope he picks up from where he left off because MB already gets enough flack for trading Sergachev to get this guy
