Description
If Adam Lowry is the “best 3rd line center in the nhl,” and he signs for is 5x$3.25mm in this environment, how much is another 28yo UFA center coming off a basically identical 3x~$3mm contract (i.e. Phil Danault) going to sign for?

$16.25mm total contract value for Lowry.
Would somewhere between $20mm-$25mm over 6 years get it done? I sure hope so.

there need to be serious changes made - if we can't win in the Canadian division with this team we aren't going to win in the east next year. can't come back with the exact same lineup.

You can't use Adam Lowry as a comparison for Danault. They are not even in the same league. Lowry is with Faksa and Laughton, Danault is with Nelson and Hayes (slightly cheaper due to covid, but still).

It all depends on Danault and what he beleives his role is. On paper you have him as a 3C in reality he plays more minutes than that.

In comparison Lowery is 7th in TOI out of Jets fwds, 8th 5v5, 9th PP time, and 1st in SH time. That is a 3rd line deployment
Danault on the other hand is 2nd in TOI out of Canadiens, 2nd in 5v5, 10th in PP time, and 1st in SH Time. He is playing a heavy top 6 minutes game

Danault has the resume to go to market and ask for Top 6/2C money. If he gets it, who knows

Faksa and Laughton are useful comps for Danault also, thanks for those.

Let’s be honest, this team needs Brendan Gallagher. He makes the entire team look different when he’s either in or out of the lineup.

If he’s healthy come playoff time, I agree with you, I’d expect this team to be able to beat anyone in the Canadian division.

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if the league still has a Canadian division next year, only this time, with fans in the stadium.

brendan Gallagher is a great player but if our hopes depend solely on him, then serious changes need to be made

They're not, Danault is in another tier. But think whatever you want.

I agree it shouldn’t be the case. Just commenting on what I see. We’re just not the same team without him. The win/loss stats totally back up the eye test as well.

He should be paid more than all those guys, but he’s in the same tier, at the higher end of it. Nelson, LOL, you’re hilarious.

Actually you are, and I'm pretty sure most Habs fans would agree with me on that.
