I think Kerfoot + Graves are both smart targets for this team.

I wonder if Ullmark would consider SJS?

So who do you lose to SEA in this scenario?

Maybe give em Jaros and Pateryn? Not sure, haven't really wracked my brain over it.

considering the moves made here:

hertl
labanc
kane
meier
couture
Gambrell
Donato/ Balcers

Exposed: some ufas that are whatever, balcers or donato, gregor

Karlsson (NMC)
Vlasic (NMC) (if Vlasic waives cause he wont be selected than Burns??)
Simek (since we trade him after expansion here we need him)

Exposed: Burns, Jaros

Goalies dont matter

assuming seattle doesnt want burns or vlasic (obviously)

It would be Donato/ Balcers or Gregor.

You could likely pay a small pick for them to just select Gregor that way the Sharks keep Balcers/ Donato. And gregor has some decent upside where Id rather keep him than lose him but I'd assume Gregor and like a 5th or 6th would be lost.

If Graves/ Kerfoot are acquired before/ at expansion with some moves (whatever is allowed IDK) then it makes things murkier as idk the exact rules before/ around trades before/at expansion.

Either way it'd be Gregor most likely I'd say unless Seattle has interest in Burns if he's exposed.

Is it really necessary to sign Marleau and Thornton? Should they even be NHLers?

Graves and Kerfoot before expansion, Johnson and Foote after expansion.
Ya, we probably lose Gregor.

I like em, so I keep em.

They're great for the locker room and they don't hurt the teams they're on. Are they the same players they were five years ago? No. But are they still NHL'ers? Yes.

I do think Graves will be available, i don't see them trading him for a smaller d man with similar cap hit. If they move graves before the expansion draft it will be for cap clearing reasons so they'd be looking probily for double draft picks sakic can flip later on at the deadline to refill positions due to cap issues.

COL would then expose Simek to SEA and collect a pick from SJ instead of losing Graves for free.

And if they don't take simek? Colorado is stuck with 3 years of a player who will never play. It doesn't make sense for them to downgrade graves for seattle to take someone else

He's not really a drastic downgrade; he plays hard minutes, defends well, is tough... lot's of upside. He's not better than Graves, but he's better than a lot of other options. Also, he and Donskoi are homies... always a nice bonus.

They have to lose somebody and there is no guarantee they pick Simek, a guy they don’t really want or need COL could just flip Graves for a 2nd and try to clear more cap space. It’s one of the more interesting proposals I’ve seen, very creative.

It's like the WWE. Every 5 years, The Rock and The Hulk make a return to the ring. But I thought the Sharks should know after all these years, Marleau and Thornton aren't the answer.

Thornton has shown this year with the Leafs, he is not an NHLer. Marleau and his 8 points this year, may not be one either. Great for the locker room? Blocking prospects with hope and possibly better players isn't good for a locker room.
