Team: 2015-16 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 19, 2015
Published: Jul. 19, 2015
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not really sure how Mr. Bowman plans on actually getting out of his real life cap hell. He is almost to the point of a rebuild so to speak. Yes, there are several top notch players still on the Hawks but every year they get older and their top prospects are shipped out. As they are structured, it is only a matter of time that they self-destruct. Unless, of course, the cap rises to $80M next off season!

With fear and trembling I submit this roster, knowing I am on record stating the Hawks do not even make the playoffs if Seabrook were to be traded. The trades I did propose in this scenario were done two-fold. The Hawks become cap compliant this year while creating some cap space cushion. Sure they lose a true heart and soul guy but the additions would allow for better flexibility. Maybe that return first from Washington is a stretch but this is armchair GMing! Ha! The Hawks also create some roster continuity for the next two seasons, albeit, again, without Seabs. Remember, the return defensemen are solid veterans and have a lot less miles. Regardless if Chicago wins again in the next two years, their next big off season will be in 2017 when numerous RFAs will be due handsome raises. Monies not spent on veterans now can be saved for the top four LWers as well as two defensemen and Darling. Much more reasonable as they realistically may have upwards of $8+M in cap space by then. Yes, the '15-16 version would be radically different from what we all are accustomed but this nickel & dime crap the organization deals with every summer is getting old. As I often say, something has to give, whether it is popular or not. 'Night all!

I understand what you're saying here and I don't think its far fetched at all but I just don't see the Hawks giving up any high picks in the upcoming drafts anymore. They have given too many away recently and have given away A prospects also. They are going to attempt to rebuild/stock up below while scraping the cap ceiling. Core guys will continue to eat up huge amounts of cap with a very fluid bottom half of the lineup each year coming from slight trades and AHL prospects with entry level contracts. I'd think maybe the Bickell trade you proposed would have the draft picks flipped so chicago receives the 2016 pick. I am not convinced with any Seabrook trade but lots of people have been throwing it around since that article came out saying he should be traded. It would really depend on what seabrook is looking for and you HAVE to assume Stan and seabrook have already been in small discussions about an extension so I'm sure both sides have some idea how it will play out. I keep shaw and ask for a good prospect instead of weber. This is one of the better "seabrook trade" scenarios I have seen though.

In this scenario, the Hawks most likely would be moving up in the first round with Vancouver's pick while their's goes to the Capitals. In 2017, they would have two first rounders.
