Butcher played great today, still showing that he can still be a top 4 offensive defenseman. Sadly I don't think he'll be that offensive top 4 guy on the Devils with Ty Smith taking that role. I think he should go to the Canadiens because some logical Habs fans said that they need a puck-moving defenseman. I would say his value is between a 2nd and 3rd but the Devils could take a bad contract to increase the value.

Habs fans (some of them), stop saying "wHy sHoUlD wE tRadE fOr a guY tHaT caN'T sTaY iN ThE tOp 6"

What many of these “expert” Habs seem to neglect is Butcher is an LD and Habs have the deepest LD prospects in the entire NHL with 8 LD’s on their way!

I think they protect him and then deal him to team that losses a LHD to Seattle.

Are any of these prospects NHL-Ready? Butcher has one year left after this season so if he plays good, they can resign him and let go of Chairot. If not, they let him go and let one of the prospects come into the lineup

I was thinking Colorado but they have bad history there. Maybe Boston, Buffalo, St. Louis or Edmonton?

I think this is where Fitz uses his 3rd retention

    NYI, CAR, WAS, WPG
All depends how expansion draft goes.
Francis will start a lot of dominoes.

And good point on 3rd retention spot.
I also think there will be some teams short on players to expose (minimum requirements) before expansion draft. So could move Merkley and/or Butcher for those reasons too.

Swap Butcher to replace Niku (if he gets taken by Seattle)

1 is ready now. 1 next year, 2 the following.

The problem with Butcher to MTL, he won’t play over Chiarot or Edmundson. After we have Kulak who plays good and Romanov... knowing how Bergevin and the coaches loves Chiarot, they will keep them in the top 4. In a perfect world swap Chiarot (defensive) for Butcher (offensive), but MTL wants to be hard to play against, which Butcher isn’t

That makes sense. But what if the Devils get Chariot back in the trade

Here on Capfriendly we approve, but realistically Bergevin isn’t trading Chiarot for Butcher. So it’s kinda unrealistic... but yes most of us would do it
