Helps both teams so that’s a good trade.

This would look like a deal without Jones' negotiating an extension prior to the trade. A risk the Flyers would make given that they will expect to re-sign him.

All that being said, why is Columbus really looking to move Jones? He should be a cornerstone player for them.

You know who else should have been a cornerstone for them...PLD. Every big UFA that has finished their contract in Columbus has walked. Why not take 5 controllable assets and not risk having that happen.

They aren’t looking to move him right now. Whether the team enters full rebuild or reload is going to depend on whether he re-signs.

There comes a point where the GM just can't turn down an offer...this is that point.

Jenner would be the type of lunch pail player they ordinarily keep. I also don't really think he has to be included in the Jones trade to get that type of return. They've lost a lot due to aging players and UFA over the last few years. They would be wise to identify the reason so many players want out. Is it Torts, a fall of playoff status, or is it just the not so hot market of Columbus Ohio?

The Flyers even during a long drought of not being a contender have attracted UFA's and or kept their own players in town that they wanted to keep.

Jenner is in the deal to add grit to our super soft lineup.

But if Columbus says no to Jenner are you pulling out on this deal? I wouldn't.

I agree that Jenner is a good target for the Flyers. I've often thought that Columbus played a game that is a model for what should be Modern Day Flyers hockey.

After reading a bit more about these prospects...I’m satisfied.

Though I think Jenner could be worth more than a third.

Jenner probably is but it is the entirety of the deal that gets to his value. If he wasn't there I would only want the 3rd back.

Calgary is missing the playoffs. They need to rebuild/retool. Why would they want to acquire a 32 year old (will be by time traded)/starting next year) winger for 7.5 million (I believe would be their highest paid forward) who is already slowing down for a couple years straight?

I doubt they'd take him straight up for free. I think he has negative value to them.

He may have more value from a team more on the cusp trying to push over the edge but Calgary isn't close enough.

So with that in mind is Gaudreau only worth a first from a good team? Not enough

And I just noticed they don't even get the first unless Gaudreau resigns. So they really don't take that trafe

I'd love to see the stats that show Voracek is declining...oh wait, they show that he is the same he has been so you can throw out that garbage argument. Voracek has been producing way better at 5v5 that Gaudreau as well. CGY gets a top line player for a couple years in a retool. You know what a retool is right? A shuffling of players for other players trying to find the right mix. JG is walking from CGY in a year and if he was traded to the Flyers, the chances are he would re-sign with them therefor giving CGY a 1st + a top line RWer that they have really needed.

Imagine thinking that being north of 30 means you are worthless...sorry Ovi

If Voracek is so good why should the Flyers do this deal?

Because we need a retool as well. New blood in the locker room.

Oh s**t, didn't realize they put that in last year's CBA...thanks for the heads up

Edit: Actually I believe you are incorrect. They seem to be allowed as long as the player is currently under contract.

A few things

1) if he was still so great why are you trying to trade him?

2) Ovi is most certainly an exception to the general trend. The stats are pretty clear that offensive primes the vast majority of the time is in the 20s

3) I had said Voracek was declining as his last 4 points per game in order are 1.04, 0.85, 0.81, 0.79. That's a pretty clear decline. However I note now upon rechecking that his ppgs before that are pretty widely fluctuating Between 0.74 and 0.99.

So perhaps he really just is in that range and that means in general he's just worse than I thought. So perhaps less than declining he just has never been a consistent point per game player instead fluctuating bwtween 0.75 and point per game.

4) regardless of all that. The most likely thing is he declined sooner rather than later. Anyone signing a 27ish year old for 8 years knows it's quite likely the last few won't be very good but it's worth it for the first few. If you don't understand aging I don't know what to tell you.

In the end it's bad value if you disagree that's okay
