Would have to throw in a pick from NJD's side as well. I really doubt Tampa moves Foote, they seem to be high on him

I dont think anything is off limits for tampa going into next season. They need to free up roughly 8-9 mil minimum to be able to keep a full roster, without adding anyone important, Unless they work out a deal with Seattle i think this type of trade could make sense for them. Of course they wont want to part with Foote but thats the type of sacrifice teams who want to remain competitive for 5-10 years have to make.

Trading away a 22 year old RHD with top 4 potential is a move to stay competitive moving forward? It is very unlikely Tampa sells from a position of weakness (RD) to move TJ, they will use their young F depth for sweeten a deal. This deal is especially troublesome as Tampa would not be looking to replace TJ in a deal getting rid of him. If we were to trade Foote as the sweetener for TJ it would require a RHD coming back.

This gets them through expansion draft so they could protect 7-3-1.
If they add another d-man, its the same issue...and have to protect 4-4-1.

It's a creative thought. Johnson is losing 6m....who he hope to make up, though he still may not want to leave Tampa. Obviously Foote is good sweetener, that Tampa would have to consider.
But like your imagination on the deal.

Tampa will almost certainly protect 4-4-1.
    Point, Kucherov, Stamkos, Cirelli
    Hedman, Sergachev, Cernak, Foote
    Vasilevskiy

We have to lose a player in expansion regardless, protecting 7-3-1 doesn't change that. If Seattle wants Palat, Killorn, Gourde, McDonagh, etc, that's fine. Sucks to lose one of them but it helps with the cap.

Seattle isn't taking any of those guys.
    I think they'd take Barre-Boulet or Katchouk.
