The idea of getting assets for taking on bad contracts is to get something that you can't typically get anywhere else (ie. Picks/prospects). Don't get me wrong, Tof is a good player, but they could quite easily sign someone similar for the same cost, without taking on a goaltender who has been below league average in 3 out of the past 4 seasons, who's cap hit takes up 12.9% of your teams space for the next 5 years. Seattle is going to have their pick of the litter when it comes to getting assets for taking on bad contracts, and this shouldn't even move the needle.
