Just a general comment on the idea that a “true leader” will give up the rights he earned in his contract to help the team keep a 3rd liner. Leadership isn’t about keeping the team together, it’s about making the personnel work with what it’s got. If he gets picked then the team doesn’t have that leadership, just say you don’t want that player’s contract on the team.

Why wouldn’t Seattle take wheeler? They need to take on money, he’s a great leader, he’s still running at almost a point per game pace, etc. He’s the perfect guy for them to take. I don’t see the wierd obsession with jest fans exposing wheeler and Morrissey. First of all, the jets won’t do it. Second, if they are exposed, there’s no way Seattle doesn’t take them.

Way too much going on in that Ducks trade and too much futures lost for rentals.

There are some Wild fans saying this same thing about Spurgeon. He’s got 6 years left at 7.5 and puts out half a point per game and plays a game that probably won’t deteriorate. Obviously Seattle takes a guy like that.

Like don’t get me wrong, I like Appleton and Stanley and I think they are apart of the future in Winnipeg so I would be willing to pay Seattle off of taking them. But exposing wheeler or Morrissey would be sheer stupidity. Not only does it cause the jets to lose a lot of leadership, it also gives the organization a bad name, especially in the case of wheeler.

Boy that Ducks deal is terrible for the Jets. Winnipeg is giving up far too much youth for two wingers they don't need, one being a rental as well and a rental defenseman.

Yippee. He is a point a game guy. You can be a 3rd line winger and still be a point a game guy. I might be talking to the wrong people about this but look at the advance stats. He starts in the offensive zone 61.6% of the time and in the defensive zone 38.4% of time and he has been on the ice for 27 goals for while even strength and 40 goals against when being on the ice. Explain to me when a top 6 forward is on the ice an average of 18 mins a game and starts more than 60% in the offensive zone and isnt more than a point a game guy? So everyone check this out.

Copp, Lowry, Appleton are going up against the other teams better lines most of the game and starting in the defensive zone more than Wheeler and producing at the same rate as Wheeler.

You are worried about losing Appleton? He's had a nice year but relatively speaking players like him are a dime a dozen when compared to the leader of your team who is still productive. You somehow let him be gone for nothing over salary you have big problems, starting in the dressing room with your other players. No guarantee its even Appleton who gets picked. If it is him then Vesalainen has his time or Chevy finds someone else.

I see your advanced stats and counter that those guys are doing what they are meant to do. They can’t be point per game guys, it’s just not what they do. Copp has never scored more than 30 points in his career and this year is probably the exception rather than the rule. But what he is good at is shutting down other teams scoring lines, and that’s what those stats show.

Your idea that every team has an 80 point is a massive exaggeration. The Wild had Staal get to 76 points once in recent memory. That point per game mark is a big deal and your comments here are reinforcing the point I made in my first post. You don’t like Wheeler or his contract and that’s fine. Just say so and don’t try to couch it in some BS about him being a leader and waiving so he’ll leave your team.
