Jets 21 22

Created by: KPasty
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 19, 2021
Published: Apr. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Copp + 2nd for Foote + 5th
Niku for Johnson

Copps the better player now, but Foote young big RHD is a premium. Allows TBL more room to re sign Savard and keep their window open

Niku to take Johnsons contract. Niku plugs in to the right side or the 7th D man on a cheap contract. Needs a change of scenery. Copp younger better option up front for TBL and can play up and down the lineup.

Dont think TBL would be willing to part with Foote though. What can be done different if Copp is a part of a deal for Foote.

Ughhhhh...this deal heavily favours TB. Copp is the best player in this deal like you stated. In order for any team to take on Johnson's contract (most likely Seattle) you will have to be giving up a strong prospect and pick. Not sure why there would be a 2nd coming from WPG either? Not to be harsh but this deal simply does not fly from a WPG perspective, the value just is not close. Not to mention WPG has no reason to move on from Copp and replace him with an over paid Johnson.

I essentially look at the trade like this: You're giving Foote and a 5th to take Johnson's contract...essentially a wash. There should be little to no value coming back from the team acquiring Johnson. In this case, WPG is just giving away Copp, Niku and a 2nd for nothing.

You say “keep their window open” like Tampa Bay doesn’t already have 3 annual Hart candidates in addition to an over a point per game 25 year old C and a guy who’s scored 60 goals in a season.

I understand the thought process behind it but Ingrid going to have to agree with what was said above. This does essentially nothing for the jest except add Foote. I like Foote, but hes not worth this much

Yeah, it's definitely a tough spot to be for TB but I think they'll have to give up a top prospect like Foote to get any team to bite.

Thats fair. I was more under the assumption that Tampa valued Foote a lot more, and a deal around Copp would be good. Considering i just dont see him staying long term in Winnipeg cause of his agent Kurt Overpay Overheardt and the fact they've gone through arbitration and that can sour the process. I still think Foote is a guy the Jets should target a Heinola/Foote pairing long term developing at the same time... could be an unreal top pairing for many years to come.
