Offseason and lookin to trade in November

Description
Avs make it to the final 4 teams. EJ comes back, plays in one or more series and looks good. EJ decides not to waive. I know every Avs fan out there is hoping he waives. I just believe if he plays he won't and if he doesn't... maybe. I also know that for those who just stat watch the Avs don't realize how much he does for our blue line when healthy. I am sure the Kraken are aware and if he's healthy and exposed Seattle may take him. I don't think he chances it. He is a legit 1st pair shut down D. Joe talks to the Capt. and convinces him to sign in offseason but costs him an extra year of term. Avs protect 8/1 from Seattle. MacK, Rants, Bura, Kadri, EJ, Makar, Sammy, Toews, Gru. Its going to hurt no matter what but everyone else is replaceable. Due to C19, there are going to be a few bigger names available for this XD and depends on the way the Krak go. I hope Joe don't do the "lose em for nothing" type trade. I'd rather lose 1 good player than 2.

Note - my crystal ball shows the Avs have a great start to the season and 7 games in EJ goes down again, out for the season.

If EJ won’t waive and he plays down the stretch he is a slam dunk to be bought out. The only way he can refuse waiving and not get bought out is if he is hurt, but what is his incentive to not waive when he is hurt Seattle isn’t going to draft an injured player.

I didn't think you could buy out contracts until after UFA starts. I could be wrong.

Kaut on the second line is a big step back from Saad, and Newhook on the fourth line is a waste of his talent. Switch those two and put Compher at 4C. I also think the Coleman signing is unrealistic.

With that said, I do think the 8 skater route in which Johnson is protected is a possibility and not all that bad of a result if Seattle takes Graves or Donskoi. If they take Jost though then there is a cap issue. It's so much easier if EJ just waives.

Edit: Responding to the above... There should be a buyout window following the Cup finals. I don't think EJ is bought out, but the window should be open.

Yeah, it's much more likely they'd play Newhook at wing in the top 9 than give him a checking-line role - just doesn't make sense for his skill set.
