Kreider’s deal is scary in a flat cap world. Don’t think the rangers would be able to move him. Certainly not for that package. Maybe if the right situation presents itself a mid round pick.

Why take a step back when they are so close already and only going to get better? If it was an 82 game season I think they would have a decent shot at making the playoffs in the toughest division in hockey given how well they are playing rn.

Strome isn’t worth a 1st and 2nd(much less 2 1st)is a bad fit stylistically in COL, and they already have C’s in Kadri and Newhook it doesn’t matter that $2M is retained for 1 yr, they’ll just keep the picks and find an option like re-signing Saad.

Kreider would need to have like $1.5 mil retained to make him trade-able. Trouba we’d have to retain like $2.5 mil for someone to even listen. Meaning after retaining Kreider would be at $5 mil and Trouba $5.5 mil. No chance we retain $4 mil in salary for 5-6 years, so unfortunately we’re stuck with them unless they retire early. These were the first two big mistakes management has made in overpaying each of these guys. With our history, I wouldn’t be surprised if Strome and Mika are the next two that are overpaid and then half the cap is gone between Panarin, Kreider, Trouba, Mika and Strome. Hopefully they’re not dumb and screw up the cap, but I wouldn’t bet on it

What should Zibenejad and Strome get in your opinion?

I think $8.25 mil by 5 years for Zib and Strome I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable giving him more than $5.65 mil for 4 years. It’s tough cause Mika is already 28 and will be 30 midway through the first year of his new contract. I just wouldn’t feel okay giving them any more term or money.

My belief is that this team has a 2-3 year playoff window before needing to pay the young guys still on ELCs. Then, they will have some cap casualties and may have to take another step back out of contention. I am trying to lengthen their rebuild by a year or 2 now before they have to lose a lot of good players, and maybe rebuild again due to cap limitations and having a bad team because of those limitations.

Is Strome a bad fit? From what I've seen, Strome is a fast playmaker that would do well, in my opinion, on the fastest team in the league. Also, I would play him at RW on the second line with Kadri, not have him compete for the center position.

Trouba's NMC and a girl friend current doing her residency doesn't help. It's going to make it almost impossible for the next couple of seasons at laest.

Calling him a fast playmaker is a very generous description of Strome who through out his career hasn’t been a play driver 30+ assists only 3 times including the last 2 seasons in which he benefitted from better linemates. As far as the fast part, idk he would on the Avs probably be the 2nd or 3rd worst skaters amongst forwards. Regardless, Sakic has NEVER traded a 1st he is due a contract at the end of next season, so there is zero chance the Avs give up a 1st & 2nd for essentially a 1 yr rental because the Avs cap space is getting tight fast and they have young players in Newhook, Kaut, Ranta and even Bowers (more of a bottom 6 guy) who can slide into that role. I mean they could also just re-sign Saad getting a better goal scorer (and higher career ppg to boot) and a guy they know fits their system and locker room. Easy pass for the Avs.

Unless we buy him out, which at this point is useless cause of the bonus money he’s owed. Someone needs to tell him he’ll never play again and be scratched forever if he doesn’t wave. The dumbest thing we’ve done since the rebuild started. And now there is talk of him becoming captain. There tryna find a way to justify that god awful contract they gave him.
