Not sure why you think Tampa will pay such a high price to dump a contract while someone else will offer you an asset to take your cap dump

Holtby isn't THAT bad, and johnson has very crippling term, especially to tampa

We can't really get a true sense of what Holtby is yet. His past two games were really good. Most of his other (bad) games came when the team and defense sucked, at the start.

If he plays more like this, the "cap dump" title is stripped... it's just too early to tell. I do like the fit in NJ though.

I'd do the TB trade. Heck, even if Ross was removed. 3C is absolutely and 100% our biggest need... not defense or scoring like many think. Our bottom six sucks. I like Johnsons fit here and honestly never considered it.

If he were coming off of a decent season last year I would be inclined to maybe agree, but 19-20 was a disaster and this year is little better. With a 4.3 cap number on a flat cap you will have to pay to move that cap number. If the Canucks feel his last couple of games were consistently repeatable they would have no interest in moving him

They still should IMO seeing as 9.3 on goalies is just too much, and its not like jersey is tight on cap

I agree with all but the last sentence. Demko is the true starter no matter what. When goalies play good, they expect more games. We cannot afford to give Holtby too many of Demko's games.

Just because they have cap space doesn't mean they want to waste it taking on another teams problems

1 hes only a problem because of cap space
2 he can be a solution for jersey in terms of a backup

Yep I've always liked the idea of taking Johnson off Tampa's hands. I'd prefer Foote over a 1st though personally, though I wouldn't complain if it were a 1st. Foote could turn into the perfect partner for Hughes.

There will be 15 better options at 1/2 of the cap number available. Just makes no sense for any team to give up an asset for this contract. Think about cash strapped team taking 5.7 million in salary for a backup goalie. Its just crazy
