Tryamkin is a big 7th defenseman. Nothing more. He's not that good and has only one attribute: Size. Myers already provides the size. I don't want to waste this much money on someone who isn't skilled enough for the NHL and waste the growth of the prospects underneath of him.

Sean Walker is worth significantly more than two 4th round picks.

Not really but at that price, LA won't trade him because they have no incentive. To have Walker you'll need to overpay but let's be real, he isn't a top 4 dman

You'll need to spend a 1st for Allen buddy and Schultz has been the 2nd best dman in WSH behind Carlson. Don't think that they'll trade him for a cap dump lol

What a coincidence my agent thinks I'm a top 4 defender too!

Absolutely not. We aren’t taking on that contract AND giving up Allen for free.

It's hilarious that people (this OP isn't the first) will acquire a defenseman for two fourths and then put him in their top 4.

Allen was traded for a third and seventh round pick in the offseason, why is he worth a first rounder now?

Have you seen him play? That's what I thought. He was paid 4m too... His salary next season is below 3

You didn’t even let me answer your question.... yeah, a few times especially when I questioned STL fans asking for a first rounder last year and I have a few Habs on my fantasy team so I like to watch em.

Everyone’s salary is going down, it’s decreased revenues. Business 101.

Can you provide a comparable trade that you based your comment off? Off the top of my head you have Lehner to Buffalo, Schneider to NJ, Grubs to Colorado, Varlamov to Colorado. Two of these were second rounders also and they’re much younger and better performances.

What about expansion draft? Price has a NMC.

The fact that Allen is not even paid 3m in that era of flat cap on its own is worth a 1st rounder. All of these guys were paid more than him and his contract is his biggest advantage

Lehner was making 2.25M for two years, Grub making 3.33M for three years, and Schneider making 4M for two years. All of three of them, were vastly superior to Allen and were starters so your point is rather odd. Typically starters and better players get paid more. Hell one of them is still on that contract and has a good shot at a Vezina.

What about the expansion draft? Are you praying Price waives?

Grubauer was not a starter when he was traded c'mon. Lehner was a bad starter when he left BUF. Like he was reaaaaly terrible and he still ended up costing a 1st to NYI. Schneider was the only one who could have been qualified as a started and ended up costing a 1st. He had a worst contract though...

Grubs was acquired because they knew they weren’t keeping Varlamov for that last year, so yeah. He also had over 100 games and a .923 SV%. Lehner like I mentioned to Buffalo had ~90 games and a .914 SV% from age 19-23 so definitely even more growth & team control. If that’s bad, Allen was god awful. Schneider was deemed a franchise goalie during the trade so let’s not even compare him to Allen, whose lost his starting job in STL multiple times.

He was better than Binnigton last year and claim back his job in the playoff dude. He was a starter at this point or a premium backup

    Habs fans are delusional.

No he's not worth a first. (Tho this trade on this post is senseless too) Goalies need to be at a very very high level to pull firsts. Fortunately this discussion need not go anywhere as Seattle gets him for free.
