Of all the contracts in the NHL, this is definitely one of them.

Honestly thought he was going to be due for a raise, so I’ll take it

$1.5m x 3 would have been better, but it's still a good signing. He's a bottom-6 player getting bottom-6 money, and MN knows he fits with the team.

and Chevy... and Fletcher....

Pearson, Lowry, Laughton all are in a different tier and all met the niche of that market.

I get the meme, but Hartman isn't exactly at that level. Nonetheless, this is a pretty nice contract. I wasn't expecting him to get a pay cut.

Good for him. Seems to have found a fit in Minnesota, and I'm glad to see him land more of a long term home. I think the money is fine for both sides, though he could honestly make more money as a model than a hockey player.

I thought Hartman should've been bought out in the offseason. Man, did he prove me wrong. This is exactly what you should do with a reliable bottom-six winger (see: Wagner, Austin).

Very good depth signing for the team. Now all Guerin has to do is trade Matt Dumba somewhere useful (Arizona? Columbus?) and the roster is set for the expansion draft.

Chevy is great at giving contracts. Give one bad contract on that team, other than the ones given to older guys mainly to show loyalty which is very necessary for a small market that doesn’t attract free agents like Winnipeg. Ie not wheeler and little, though one could argue that those contracts won’t (or wouldn’t have in the case of little) be very bad until the last 1-2 years.

As for Lowry, it’s a steal. The jets play him to shutdown the other teams top lines every game, which allows the jets to play their top 6 more freely. He also plays big, which isn’t something the jets have a lot of. Not to mention, he’s a great voice for the team. He would have easily gotten over 4M on the open market imo and the jets got him on a serious steal of a contract. Take this with a grain of salt but when Friedman said that when he reported that both the jets and lowry’s camp were getting close on a contract, he was called by multiple execs of teams asking if it was done and he said yes. That’s shows just how valuable he is. Imo, without him, the jets aren’t exactly in a good spot. Not to mention it’s a steal of a contract anyway.

As for his other contracts, scheifele, Connor, ehelrs, hellebuyck... To say chevy is bad at contract negotiations is very false, in fact he is one of the best in the league tbh.

Damn, was really hoping he would get to FA or the jets could get him as a rental. Good signing for a physical 4th liner who can play in the top 9 if need be

Where the heck did I imply this?

I'm simply stating that Pearson, Lowry and Laughton all were signed to a similar number because they are all part of the same tier / type of player.

Hartman isn't in that tier, so he got less. It's not like Benning, or WPG/PHI's gms will just hand him excess money for the lols.

Chevy is a fantastic GM, so you either misread what I said or took it the wrong way.

Sorry, my bad. It seemed like to me that you were saying chevy overpays his players like Benning (who really doesn’t either) and fletcher (again doesn’t really). My bad lol, misunderstandings happen when you aren’t face to face smile
