It's only one year so it's worth it imo and he could be re-signed at half his current price if he works out.

He went to arb last contract that’s didn’t go well and his agent has a history of walking clients to UFA so I hate the idea of using a protection spot for a guy 1 yr removed for UFA who maybe wants to leave. Protect Apples and use Copps breakout year to gain a RHD.

They are pretty much the same age, have very similar production, same term in their contracts, but Henrique has a higher cap hit. Why is one of them valuable and the other is a cap dump?

Take AJ from NJ. Take DeMelo from Winnipeg. Dont sign Armia. Take the money you saved to sign a 2C to make that team just that much deeper. Don’t take JVR either unless an overpayment from Philly.

I’d grab a younger guy with up side over Henrique. I feel like you aren’t getting enough from Tampa for taking on that much salary. Johnsson over PK. Cap space is too valuable to take PK without getting anything. I feel like Toronto’s unprotected forwards have more up side than Dermott. Not a fan of picking UFAs. Dobby or Allen are there if you need a goalie. I’d go for Bean over Geekie. Forget the picks. This would have made more sense for them before trading Fleury, but I still think they do it

He can still be a top 6 center unlike Johnson. There's also a lack of better options on ANA, while Tampa has to find a way to keep their group together.

                                                                Borgen can be picked

McDonagh isn't that bad of a contract. He's still a 1st pairing dman and brings invaluable experience and leadership

I don’t think the ducks protect Heinen. His QO is like $3.4M iirc. He’ll probably be non tendered so no reason to protect him. I have a hard time thinking SEA takes a fwd let alone Henrique from ANA unless there’s some type of deal. Manson probably has the best trade value of the unprotected players so even if they take him just to flip him it makes more sense then taking on almost $6M Henrique.

Also who’s the 3rd goalie from the draft? SEA has to take at least 3.

I don’t see Subban as the right pick for them and that Tampa deal doesn’t do much either.

Take AJ from NJ. Take DeMelo from Winnipeg. Dont sign Armia. Take the money you saved to sign a 2C to make that team just that much deeper. Don’t take JVR either unless an overpayment from Philly.

Andreas Johnsson is a far worse option than Joel Armia if you ask me. The 2C market is extremely thin assuming RNH and Danault re-sign with their respective teams. They've got to take some guys who can put up points, you can't just bank on breakout players, JVR is a sure bet and is kinda like James Neal when he was taken by Vegas.

Henrique has significantly better underlying numbers but his production has decreased like the rest of the team. He can still be a top 6 center unlike Johnson. There's also a lack of better options on ANA, while Tampa has to find a way to keep their group together.

And also a lack of C available.

When I look at Seattle mock drafts, I always see big holes at center. They'll also get a nice bunch of Dmen, so D->C trade seems possible

I don't believe LA will go 4-4-1. Kale Clague is a solid prospect, but he hasn't taken the step forward this season that they hoped he would. Guys like Athanasiou, Grundstrom, and Moore have played really well this season, so I don't believe they will want to protect Clague over those guys.

There's some debate over whether or not LA will protect Brown. I don't think they will, but others seem to think that he will get a protection slot. Here's what there protected list should look like:

Forwards: Kopitar, Iafallo, Kempe, Athanasiou, then three of Grundstrom, Moore, Andersson, and Brown. I think it will be the first 3, but you can swap in Brown for one of those guys if you so choose.
Defense: Doughty, Roy, Walker. There has been some speculation that LA might trade Walker to make room for Clague on the protection list. It's possible, but unlikely.
                                                                Goalie: Petersen

In this situation, it appears that Seattle will get Clague or a bottom-six forward. Nothing they get from LA is really going to be a game-changer for them. IMO, LA should offer up one of the 2nd round picks in this year's draft for Seattle to take Olli Maatta.

They are pretty much the same age, have very similar production, same term in their contracts, but Henrique has a higher cap hit. Why is one of them valuable and the other is a cap dump?

Because Anaheim doesn't NEED to have Seattle pick Henrique.

He has a great relation with all of the young players in NJ. Plus, they need his cap hit to stay above the cap floor lol.

I think Seattle should take Andreas Johnsson. It does look like Seattle doesn't have too much forward depth right now.

Gawdin won't meet the game requirements to be eligible, in this scenario Backlund is exposed, I don't think that will be the case come the expansion draft, Lucic will waive and Giordano, Kylington, and probably a Brett Ritchie will be available for Seattle.
Out of that lot Giordano is the obvious pick if Seattle wants to take him for a season but it's expensive, Kylington likely the next best option but I don't see Calgary spending assets to keep any of those guys in town. Calgary will be relatively unaffected by the draft twice now losing a UFA in Engelland and now either Gio which will open up nearly $7M or Kylington who is a no harm no foul pick

Heinen could be easily swapped for Jones. There are dozens of defensemen like Manson and top 6 centers are usually hard to get. Henrique would be perfect imo. I think the role he'll play will outweigh the 2nd-ish round pick that Manson would fetch.

Im okay with skipping on AJ if that is the thought then go rfa young type with NJ. Subban isn’t it. Take Gourde from TB instead of that deal and you have an okay 2C, borderline good one. If Tampa does 7-3, take foote and be done with it.
