Montreal All-Draft Team

Created by: ChrisPy97

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 23, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Montréal Canadiens! Numéro Seize! Prendre plaisir!

NOTE: Yeesh...I had no idea there were so few forwards. I had to add Luke Tuch just to reach 15. I don't know if this is necessarily bad drafting, because some of these picks are great value, but I do wonder why so few quality forwards. This definitely changed recently, but still.

Also: Man did they fudge the Sergachev deal. I can't remember whether he wanted out or not, but still that has to sting a bit.

Wow, I never knew they drafted such a low amount of forwards. I don't think this team would make the playoffs in the modern-day NHL. Plenty of cap space though.

The problem is not quantity... its quality...

"Also: Man did they fudge the Sergachev deal. I can't remember whether he wanted out or not, but still that has to sting a bit."

iirc Tampa was as per usual in a tough cap spot and decided to move on from Drouin. They got the better pick (2nd for 6th, although it might have been a 3rd or somehing after Sergachev played x games).
Montreal went out to get Drouin more than Tampa did Sergachev I'm pretty sure.

I can understand Tampa's position, but in hindsight (i know 20/20) this hurts for Habs fans, because it wasn't necessary for them

I think the real miscalculation is on Drouin, the player. His offense was driven by MacKinnon, then by Tampa's elite offense drivers, rather than him being amazing in juniors and the NHL.
