Description
With the Seattle draft this year, the offseason could offer some really interesting trades. Who knows if Bergevin will still be the GM by then, but if he is, it'll be his kind of market with lots of deals to be found.

This is my take of one player on each team that Bergevin could (mostly) realistically target. Obviously they can't make every trade listed, so ignore the cap and lines. Montreal would have to pick and choose which deals to make, including if they let UFAs like Danault, Tatar and Armia walk.

My picks are focused on players that will help the Habs win in 2-3 years more so than now, but still lets them be competitive in the short term. This is the core roster I'd want to build on (lines/pairs aren't important):

Toffoli -- Suzuki -- Anderson
__ -- Kotkaniemi -- Caufield
__ -- Poehling -- Gallagher

Romanov -- Petry
__ -- Weber

Price

*Weber and Price mostly because I don't see how they can move their contracts.

I'm sure a lot of teams (and especially fans) won't want to part with some of these players, but it was an interesting challenge to try and find players that _might_ be available and in the Habs' price range.

I fully expect some (probably most) of these ideas to be shot down, but if you could be civil while doing it; it would be much appreciated.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Terry, Troy
Additional Details:
Earlier in the season it was reported that Anaheim was willing to move on from Terry, but since then he's played pretty well, so they might not be willing to move him.

Other good options would be Danton Heinen, Haydn Fleury and Sonny Milano.
ANA
2.
MTL
  1. Garland, Conor [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
It's been reported that Arizona would be willing to move Garland for picks/prospects, but it's likely to take a _lot_ to get a deal done. Still worth Bergevin making a phone call though.
Lawson Crouse might be a cheaper option.
ARI
3.
MTL
  1. Frederic, Trent [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Right now Frederic looks to be the most likely player to be taken by Seattle, but there's a good chance Boston will move Jake DeBrusk and protect Frederic. Either player could be interesting for the right-wing-heavy Habs.
BOS
4.
MTL
  1. Dubé, Dillon [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Calgary's expected to make some big roster moves before the draft, but with the current roster convincing Calgary to give up Dube might not be that hard, especially with Sutter as coach.

Noah Hanifin would obviously be the ideal target for the Habs, but its doubtful Calgary would move him.
CGY
5.
MTL
  1. Bean, Jake [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
With Dougie Hamilton unlikely to resign before the draft, there's not a lot of pressure on Carolina to make a trade (and they're not likely to want to do Bergevin any favours), but while Bean looks like he'll be a good D-man in the future, he might be a piece they'd be willing to move for some help on D now.
CAR
6.
MTL
  1. Hagel, Brandon [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I wouldn't be surprised if Chicago a deal to protect Hagel, but right now he looks like the odd man out.
CHI
7.
MTL
  1. Jost, Tyson [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I think the odds are good that Colorado protects 8 skaters, allowing them to protect Ryan Graves and leaving Jost available. If not, he's definitely a good target for the Habs instead.

Logan O'Connor is another player that I think would be worth a look, but the Avs don't have a lot of incentive to move him.
COL
8.
MTL
  1. Stenlund, Kevin [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
A solid 4th line winger with size, this one wouldn't be high on Berge's todo list, but could be a useful pickup.
CBJ
9.
MTL
  1. L'Esperance, Joel
Additional Details:
Like the Habs, Dallas will most likely be losing a goalie in the draft, so they really have no need to move L'Esperance. However, if the Stars move one of their netminders before the draft, then Seattle might set their sights on the speedy winger. Why lose him for nothing?
DAL
10.
MTL
  1. Bertuzzi, Tyler [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
There's absolutely no pressure on Detroit to make a move, but Bertuzzi is likely to age out of his prime before they're ready to contend.

He'd be a replacement if the Habs move on from Tatar, but likely too expensive to be high on Berge's list.
DET
11.
MTL
  1. Benson, Tyler [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Highly dependent on when/if a deal gets done with RNH, I'd expect Edmonton to expose Archibald and protect Benson, but a reasonable offer might change their minds.

Ethan Bear would also be worth asking about depending on how Klefbom's injury impacts the draft -- Caleb Jones is probably more realistic though.
EDM
12.
MTL
  1. Bennett, Sam [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Florida paid a lot for Bennett at the deadline, so they'll likely protect him, but that does mean exposing Anthony Duclair.

Duclair would also be worth a look for the Habs, but since the Panthers will most likely lose one or the other, it might not be _too_ expensive to convince them to part with Bennett.
FLA
13.
MTL
  1. Clague, Kale [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
LA has so many good young prospects that they just can't protect them all. Right now Clague looks like the odd man out. This one would be more about future potential.

Besides Clague, Blake Lizotte would be another great option, but the Habs might be at capacity for small wingers.

Given LA's embarrassment of riches, there's lots of names that could go here. Though that might change if they make the Eichel deal.
LAK
14.
MTL
  1. Greenway, Jordan
Additional Details:
This one is pretty unlikely and only really possible if the Wild decide to protect 8 skaters to keep Matt Dumba.

Much more likely they trade Dumba before the draft and not to the Habs.
MIN
15.
MTL
  1. Carrier, Alexandre
Additional Details:
While Mattias Ekholm would be the "win now" choice, I don't think the Habs are ready for that. I also don't think the Preds will move him, especially if they can persuade Seattle to take Matt Duchene off their hands.

Given the strength of Nashville's D-core, they might be willing move Carrier for a reasonable deal. The question is does Bergevin think he's a significant upgrade on Cale Fleury or Josh Brook?
NSH
16.
MTL
  1. Wood, Miles
Additional Details:
Another pretty unlikely one, New Jersey really isn't worried about the draft, expecting to lose either Will Butcher or PK Subban.

While someone like Nathan Bastian would be a more realistic target, the Habs are pretty loaded down on right wingers. The Devils will be in the market for D help though and the Habs are also heavy (figuratively and literally) on D-men.
NJD
17.
MTL
  1. Bellows, Kieffer [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
The Habs really aren't a great trading partner for the Isles this year, but if they're willing to take on a year of Thomas Hickey and/or Leo Komarov's contracts, a deal could probably get done.

Bellows is a promising young winger, but the Islanders just don't have room for him.
NYI
18.
MTL
  1. Howden, Brett [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
The Rangers are another team that's not an ideal trade partner for Montreal this year, but Howden might be an interesting piece for the Habs if they aren't bringing back Danault.

Assuming NYR doesn't make any major moves before the draft (i.e. Eichel), they'll have to choose between Julien Gauthier and Howden, so it's reasonable to think they'd be willing to make a deal.
NYR
19.
MTL
  1. Daccord, Joey
Additional Details:
With so many of the Senators key pieces ineligible for the draft, they're unlikely to be willing to part with any players that would really help the Habs.

If Montreal can't work out a deal to keep Allen though, Daccord could make for a solid (and cheap) backup to Price until Primeau is ready to take over.
OTT
20.
MTL
  1. Patrick, Nolan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Patrick's stock is fairly low in Philly right now so he could be an interesting pickup and a reasonable price.

The Habs are already pretty stocked with young centres, but that's a good problem to have.
PHI
21.
MTL
  1. McCann, Jared
Additional Details:
Another unlikely one: McCann is a solid LW and Pittsburg might well protect him over Brandon Tanev -- but they'll most likely be losing Casey DeSmith in the draft, so it won't matter either way.

If the Habs have given up on Drouin, this could be a good trade, though they'd likely have to retain some of his $5.5m salary. I doubt he'd be what Hextall and Burke are looking for though.
PIT
22.
MTL
  1. True, Alex [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Assuming the Sharks continue to straddle the line between "win now" and "rebuild", they'll likely be unable to protect Alex True.

The question would be if they wanted picks and/or prospects they wouldn't have to give up in the draft, or if they'd want a roster player to help them now.
SJS
23.
MTL
  1. Dunn, Vince [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
With Justin Faulk, Torey Krug and Colton Parayko to protect, Dunn is the odd man out.

While I think Dunn might be the best fit for the Habs to slot in beside Weber next season -- he's also a great fit for a lot of other teams and will likely cost a lot. I still hope the Habs find a way, but they have to ask themselves if he'll be worth it given Romanov's progression.
STL
24.
MTL
  1. Foote, Cal [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
This one is stretching the definition of unlikely.

Tampa really doesn't have any reason to move Foote aside from a deal with Seattle to avoid losing a more valuable piece. The only way he ends up in Montreal is a convoluted 3-way deal.
TBL
25.
MTL
  1. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
There really isn't a deal to be had here, but if there was a player that the Habs would be interested in and the Leafs might be willing to move (depending who you talk to) it'd be Nylander.

It's doubtful these two teams would connect for a trade this impactful though and Montreal doesn't really have the assets Toronto would be looking for in return.
TOR
26.
MTL
  1. Juolevi, Olli [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Vancouver will likely have to make a choice between Juolevi and Madison Bowey, but will likely be looking to make a deal with Seattle to get out from under a contract.

Juolevi would be a solid depth piece for the Habs, but not something they'd want to spend a lot to get. Definitely in the "unlikely" column.
VAN
27.
MTL
  1. Glass, Cody
Additional Details:
While Vegas is exempt from the Seattle draft, they still have cap issues to deal with.

If the Habs lose Allen, would they be willing to take Marc-Andre Fleury's full cap hit to get a good young centre? They've got their own cap issues to deal with, but it'd be workable.

Probably a year to late on this one from Vegas' end -- Fleury's had way too good a year.
VGK
28.
MTL
  1. Mantha, Anthony
Additional Details:
There's really no deal to be had here. This is another bad trade partner for Montreal, with neither team really having what the other team needs available.

Mantha would be a long shot, given what the Caps gave up to get him, but unless Ovi gives them a hell of a discount, Washington will have to dump salary from somewhere -- just probably not here.
WSH
29.
MTL
  1. Appleton, Mason
Additional Details:
This might be the best deal out there. The Jets will have to decide if they want to protect Appleton or the newly signed Adam Lowery, because they'll definitely lose the other one.

Winnipeg will likely shop Appleton around to try and get that top-4 D-man they've been after for a few years now. The Habs aren't likely move Petry and the Jets aren't likely to take Weber, so there's no deal there.

However, if the Jets decide to get that big splash from a signing, they may move Appleton for assets they won't lose in the draft.
WPG
30.
MTL
  1. Reinhart, Sam [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Saved this one for last. Obviously, like every other GM in the league, Berge should make a call to ask about Jack Eichel, but I can't see him realistically out bidding LA or NYR without gutting the team.

Even Reinhart is a long shot and Buffalo will have to decide to burn it all down before they make him available. However, if they do, the Habs have the picks and prospects to make a compelling offer.

To get Nylander, you would need to give up a high end prospect and a 1st round pick as the starting price

How exactly is convincing Calgary to move a 22 year old sophomore not going to be hard?

Hagel has played his way into being protected. One of Nylander or Gaudette will be exposed most likely.

Good effort put im your Christmas list but most of those players aren't on the trade block / would cost you one of your prime player.

I miss the point of all this

Ryan Graves is not protect worthy, they do not care if hes selected so the whole premise you present on why the avs will make Jost available is just not true

Jost wont be traded, he fills a very valuable role on the Avs and will be protected in the draft as the Avs will go 7-3-1 with Erik Johnson waiving his NMC since he has been hurt all season and will miss all the playoffs with his injury

The Blues will protect Dunn over Faulk and probably Krug. If one of those high priced Dmen are selected, that's over 6m to spend on another player.
