As for this team, I think it could be competitive with a bounce back year from Duchene. Not as good as Vegas was in year 1, but a wild card contender.

My guess is Seattle says a first, devils say no way, and they move on. 2nd minimum though. San Jose got a 4th for eating a quarter of foligno’s pro rated contract.

Devils may expose Subban, but would not have to pay anything to move his contract.
Odds are greater that they re-sign him than they pay someone to take him.

Settle down. Subban’s contract is definitely negative value. It would take a lot to move it. Whether or not the devils should is a different conversation.

The NHL is a lot more fun when you live in reality. Bad contracts happen. Every team has them. Subban is a 2.5 million dollar player with a 9 cap hit. How is that not negative value?

Ronning is an AHLer that makes the team cap compliant. Not my first choice, but he’s the only forward that fits the teams cap needs. And I like Ty Ronning.

First of all, NJD needs Subban’s contract to hit salary floor. So not really anything they are worried about. Second, Subban was been their #3 d-man this year and is far better than a $2m player. Third, if teams traded this way, you’d have everyone selling low and buying high.

Debrusk has been playing like $800k player. Since he has negative value, would Bruins trade a pick to get him off their books? By your logic, they should.

The contract, in a vacuum, is unquestionably negative value. Subban isn’t good, and he’s paid like he’s elite.
