If Seattle Takes Oshie

Created by: ClockReads2113

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 23, 2021

Description
Hard to tell if Seattle will take Oshie or not. The reasons why they wouldn't is the contract length and the age of Oshie. The reasons they would pick him is they need to make the cap floor, Oshie is still good and at the very least will be a great 3rd liner the last couple of years, he is from the area, and would be a perfect Captain.

So let's say they do for the sake of argument.

Trades don't need to be to those specific teams. Just moving those players out.

Yeah that sums it up well I reckon they'd take him ultimately- maybe the key would be just having well known quality players to help stabilize the franchise

How tough they are to find in that situation

Lots of very underrated players available tho

If the idea is that Oshie is the pick, why are those other trades at all necessary?

So lose Oshie to expansion and then trade 2 defensively responsible LHD for bad picks to start 2 rookies on the left side of the defense and trade Vanecek who is already under contract to play Lundqvist who is an uncomfortable sneeze away from retirement? Sounds like a super good plan tears of joy

Of course they can. It would actually help if Ovechkin waits to re-sign after the expansion draft. Then they could protect Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Wilson, Oshie, Mantha, Sprong and Eller/Sheary as their 7 forwards. If he re-signs before the expansion draft then someone else has to be exposed.

Hard to say, they just re-signed Sheary for 2 years so it depends if they think McMichael will be ready to take the 3C role or if they could sign a veteran cheaper than Eller who currently makes 3.5 million

Dillon isn't good. Kempny wasn't looking good before his injury so can't imagine he looks good now. Fehervary is going to be very good so I'd trust him at 2LHD, but no way Caps allow another rookie to played 3LHD so keep Kempny if you want. Vanecek is good but we can get a much needed pick for him but if it gets your undies all twisted you can keep him as well. I just really want to see Lundqvist play haha He's my favorite.

Because Caps need to get their kids playing and Dillon and Kempny aren't that good. Plus it's good to make some cap space for breathing.

He's not terrible but feel like he started the season well but hasn't been great the last couple months.

The Detroit trade would depend on where Detroit picks in the draft and it looks like they will be much closer to 10 than they will be to 1. Since Yzerman isn't afraid to take a goalie in the first round they realistically could take Wallstedt.

The 2nd is actually Washington's 2nd they traded in the Mantha deal, so it would be a late 2nd.

Yeah I was just saying if Detroit draft a goalie they might not want to trade for one as well.
