Blockbuster offseason deals

Created by: Tomas_Hurdle
Team: 2021-22 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 26, 2021
Published: Apr. 26, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Quick Notes: Don't forget that lines are always interchangable, this is just what they are for opening night. I've explained almost everything about the roster below. READ THIS BEFORE YOU COMMENT.

Trade Explanations
-
OTT - Receiving good picks in exchange for a solid player with potential. Made the trade in anticipation for the Laine trade.
-
Expansion Draft takes place. SEA selects Oleksiak and re-signs him because Khudobin is old.
-
CBJ - Adding offense to the team. Laine most likely agrees to a 1 year deal worth less than last year, considering he had a down year. A Werenski trade isn't unheard of either, he's been in the rumor mill lately too.
-
TOR - Oettinger becomes the starter this year. Bishop is a bit of a risk since he's been out for so long, so he goes for only a later year 3rd.

Line Explanations
-
1st - Pretty solid line, only gets slightly more minutes than the second line.
-
2nd - A line that has been on fire this year. Should be good next year too.
-
3rd - Laine is only here for chemistry reasons. He could replace Benn this year, with Benn getting older. Dickinson and Faksa are interchangable, and so are Rodrigues and Kiviranta.
-
4th - Only mainstay here is Cogliano. Otherwise the bottom 6 C and RW positions are interchangable.
-
PP1 - Laine is the main goal scorer here. Klingberg will quarterback and Pavelski will drive the net.
-
PP2 - Using the remaining offensive players here, and spreading out scoring. Werenski is the quarterback and Seguin is down low.
-
PK1 - Only reason Benn isn't on the PP is because he'll be getting more minutes here. Main defensive players are here.
-
PK2 - Dickinson has an underrated defensive game, so does Rodrigues. Klingberg is only here as a mentor to Harley.

This wouldn’t be accepted for laine alone. You add werenski. Take this back to the drawing board. I’m aware both are rumored to be on the move but not for this package.

Maybe the leafs do it? I mean its a bit early to call, his deal is okay but I mean he is 34 now and he missed the entire year so I think Dubas will look to free agency instead tbh

Never mind that. The Gurianov trade is almost worst.

Columbus, Toronto decline both of these deals. No way in hell are we trading our only good sniper who still has A LOT of untouched potential for a 2nd.

Laine isn't gonna sign with Columbus, and Werenski is gonna want to get paid. They both might not be on the Stars for 2022-23 since they're both gonna want big long-term deals, Dallas gonna have to trade one or even both. I think it's a fair package, though I could see an extra pick going for Werenski.

Dallas's system is pretty much the same as Columbus's, doubt Laine would want to be here.

Believe me, I like Gurianov too, but he's running out of time to tap into that potential. I do admit, I should've added a bit more for the Toronto and Columbus deals.

If tortz is gone, Laine will stay. Assuming the coach they hire has a better system. Tortz’s system does not work with Columbus. I will be shocked if he comes back.

Laine will come back if Tortz is gone.

Even if it came close to approximating "fair", we're not interested in a "fair value" package for either of those guys. If you want Laine, we insist on a top-6 center. If you want Werenski, that demand becomes a top-line center. Poaching both and not giving up ANY centers is absolutely unacceptable.

Laine is literally a traffic cone with a really good shot. And he would have a fit the second you put him on the third line. No thank you. Doubt they trade Werenski and if they did that still wouldn’t be enough for him alone. Absolutely no to trading Guri. He’s streaky and you can tell he gets in his own head at times, but if he figures it all out he’s gonna be a monster. Especially if the Stars open up their style of play a little

It's his 2nd season relax. He scored 20 goals last year and 17 playoff points in 27 games, he also has 26 points in 47 games this year playing with a 3rd line centre and being on a powerplay with Lindell. He's one of the fastest players in the league and has a wicked canon of a shot. All while being under Bones's heavy defensive system. That 2nd round pick might not even make the NHL.

    What?
You'd rather have pick #37 over pick #23?
In that case, we'll offer a 3rd rounder.
