As for if he’s available...even we don’t know. A lot of this is going to turn to whether Seth Jones re-signs or not come this summer. There’s a decent chance that even if Jones does re-sign, they’d keep Z.

But who knows, this, along with another trade or two, would be a hell of a way to start a rebuild.

I don't think we could dump a contract as (a) everyone except Subban is on a ELC or bridge deal, and (b) If we moved Subban, we'd be looking up at the salary floor.

I'm frankly not all that enamored with going all in with high picks in this draft, so even though that's a very nice payment for Werenski, there's no #1C and so I'm kind of inclined to say "no" regardless.

I agree with this but the only problem is with it now being that he is 23 with rfa rights only until 2023. There will be high demand but a 1c could be too rich for teams not in a similar scenario to us with Dubois.

I'd go Hischier and a 2nd for Werenski and a 5th.

Why not get Caleb Jones and tempt his brother to come in FA

Beniers sounds like your best bet at top-6 center.
McTavish perhaps.
Eklund maybe, but probably more of a winger. And not sure he’d jive well with Torts if he sticks around.

I think Marchenko projects as a winger, and Roslovic is spending pretty much all his time at C nowadays. And frankly I'd be really worried about playing that many newly drafted players in the lineup.

Werenski to Detroit? Hadn’t heard that.
I think he would be perfect for NJD.

Jones brothers, Clarke brothers, Hughes brothers, Foote brothers, Subban brothers. We can fit them all.



I’d love Werenski in NJ.
But Hischier would probably not be on table.
Zacha, McLeod, Boqvist....maybe even Sharangovich.
But Hughes and Hischier will hopefully be locked into 1C and 2C for a decade.

It would probably be best if the devils didn’t go after Nuge, Krejci and Ullmark in free agency, and if they didn’t do that Werenski trade. Mind as well draft your own defence man if you want one, and build from your core.

We are building from core and have plenty of prospects at every position. We have the centers, tons of wings, defensive depth, a couple goalies deep in system.
But need 1-2 more top-4 d-men.
This only works if they see Hughes, Edvinsson, etc as lesser options than a guy like Werenski.
Plus, one of our big holes has been getting shots from point on net, which I think Werenski helps with.

PS - I think Nuge will love Northern NJ.

He’s never said anything to that effect. It’s a storyline that’s been created since he’s from DET and is close friends with Larkin. It’s the same way everyone assumes every Canadian player is going to bolt for TOR or MTL come FA.

I don’t doubt he’d love playing for DET, but if it was a big enough deal that he was forcing the issue, he probably would’ve been dealt already.

Re: Caleb - it’s not a bad idea, particularly since he could be had for cheap, but if I’m CBJ I’m making sure we have Seth locked up before getting Caleb.

Out of curiosity was there any news about Werenski today I missed? Seen a couple AGM teams with him involved not sure if there was any news suggesting he wants out or if you're just putting out an idea with CBJ likely heading torwards a rebuild.

Some claim he’s said more on Twitter but I don’t use Twitter nor have they provided the content. Some insiders (Kypreos & a couple others) have said they’ve heard Werenski wants to play for Detroit so you can believe that or not. Werenski isn’t an idiot so he’s not going to flat out and say I’m only playing for the Winged Wheel and lose all leverage in negotiations and with his team mates. There aren’t a ton of recent examples of players under team control for awhile saying they want out (except PLD but that seemed quick to me). Could be true or could just be click bait for ad revenue. Would I love to have him in Detroit, absolutely, but unless he forces the issue he’s saying with Columbus and I wish him all the best in his hernia recovery.
