Hyman isn't signing for $4M

I mean he possibly could, perhaps 4x3, instead of 4x6, he said he'd take a team friendly discount, 1 because he's wants to play for his home town team, and 2 (my guess) he doesn't want to move his family after just having his first kid, probably wants to stay with the Leafs. He's also from what I've heard quite well off, so that might even go towards how much he's willing to take to stay. If that all makes sense.

It's the rules, all players have to sign really high deals because it's TO and those are the only deals Dubas signs. Sure the vast majority of his contracts have been good and the Leafs have zero bad contracts but this is capfriendly. Somehow the team with no bad contracts has a GM that always overpays. It's confusing I know.

No, Hyman is just worth a lot more than $4M. Pretty sure there are teams that will pay $5.5M maybe more. Does Hyman like TO yes, does he want to stay yes, will he take a hometown discount probably. But $1.5M is too much to leave on the table.

MARCUS JOHANSSON is a somewhat close comparable $4.5M pre covid but Hyman scores at a significantly hirer rate.

If Hyman wants to stay in TO he signs for 4 million or less. It's just not wise to sign him for more. If he does get more than 4, I bet the term is less. 29, knee injuries and guys like Ladd, Neal, Lucic etc who all fell off a cliff at 30 should give everyone pause.

Looking a bit more I think Toffoli is a better comparable, $4.6M pre covid, $4.25M post covid. I think Hyman brings more physicality and is more valuable but there is an injury risk. Maybe $4M is possible but I think he goes for more.
