That’s easy...because that’s not factual at all. 4/20/21 vs the devils he had the 4th most even strength ice time among dmen, 4/22/21 vs the devils he had the 3rd most even strength ice time among dmen, 4/24/21 vs the devils he had the 5th most even strength ice time among dmen, 4/25/21 vs Boston and 4/27/21 vs Boston he had the least even strength ice time among defensemen. Fun fact 4/22/21 vs the devils, Matheson had the most even strength ice time and Letang had the 4th most even strength ice time. Do you really think Matheson is better than Letang or even played better than Letang in that game specifically? No. The thing with Sully is there are a lot of factors that go into players ice time. Score, matchups, etc
Dude YOU'RE the one that was trying to use even strength ice time to justify his value. Everyone and their mother knows Letang is more valuable than Matheson and the TOI reflects that. It does the opposite for Pettersson. You can't have it both ways. When the game is on the line he's the one not getting played. Do these look like numbers that say top 4?
Tonight he played 12:32, least out of anyone even at even strength and no special teams time.
On the 27th against Boston he played 14:13, least out of anyone at even strength and no special teams time.
On the 25th against Boston he played 15:24, least out of anyone at even strength and no special teams time.
Before that against Jersey he played 14:18 which put him a whopping 7 seconds above last at even strength and the last overall with no special teams time.
You tried to say that he averages the 4th most even strength ice time and that's what makes him your 4th defenceman. I gave you the season averages which have him dead last and you tried to refute that by saying injuries skewed the numbers earlier in the season. Yet here we are looking at his most recent games and he's bottom of the barrel. So much so that he has averaged the least amount of total toi and even strength toi in the last 5 games to go along with his abysmal season averages. Keep in mind that the that he doesn't get minutes when the game actually matters or when matchups are taken into account is actually what should be jumping out at you the most. If him getting phased out was a one off then the numbers would reflect that when averaged, whether over the last 5 games or over the season.... but they dont.
Also fun fact: Ceci and Matheson are listed pretty much everywhere as your second pair.
