Zero chance the Rangers give up anything near Kakko for a year of 35 year old Malkin.

While I disagree with the sentiment from other people that you won't get a good return for these guys despite their age (because they're Crosby Malkin and Letang and GMs like veteranosity), I'm a bit more confused why Pittsburgh would do this as they've been much better since a slow start. Though if you're just doing this as a hypothetical that doesn't matter and my bad lol.

Not sure if Montreal gives up Suzuki, maybe Kotkaniemi? Would Edmonton want Letang if they have Barrie presumably extended? Its definitely harder to make these trades with the flat cap. Personally, if Crosby went somewhere, it'd be on his terms and Montreal is a possibility but I feel like the go to has to be Colorado because of the Mackinnon connection. Malkin I could see going to someone who is trying to get over the hump and needs center depth, maybe someone like Minnesota even.

no way the Oilers do that trade, in 2 years Broberg is going to be as good if not better then Letang.

    Really

    popcorn

Broberg has an NHLe of 10 right now in Sweden and Letang still hits a 60+ point pace yearly so at least offensively that's almost impossible to occur

Could Bro outperform his 20th percentile xGA?

    that's definitely possible

But Letang still elite by almost all other metrics

He might just be Adam Larsson 2.0 ultimately

Im just gonna speak on the Rangers Trade, If we trade for an aging center with only a few more years left in him we will not trade one of our best young players especially when we haven't made the playoffs in 4 years

oilers fans are getting impatient, if the oilers gm dosnt make a move this offseason to improve the team he could lose his job. this is just an idea

I am just saying I rather keep a prospect with elite upside then 2 or 3 years of 30 something Letang

Every Oilers fan knows that Holland didn't make a big move at the TDL because he had no cap space and didn't want to make a mistake like de did with AA last season. Oilers have plentily of cap space this off season and Holland said he is going to use it.

Holland is expected to make moves, but literally no Oilers fan is asking for this, in fact this high cap on a Dman in Letang would block more important moves at top 6 LW and goaltending. Why would they use all these assets on an expensive and oft injured Dman when they can resign Barrie for cheaper, or give Bouch a shot on the back end? The real key for the Oil is resigning Larsson, as with Bear and either Bouch/Barrie, the right side is well set and balanced with defensive and offensive D options. Further fact Klef could even come back sometime next season (not banking on it, but his trajectory suggests so).

I would not hate if Holland used these assets on a top 6 winger signed for term at decent cap, or a decent goalie in the same situation. But a Dman makes no sense if you understand how the Oilers are actually currently constructed.

every year that goes by I am less impressed with Kaapo and Hughes.
The past 10 years. The worst drafts at the top. 2012, then it's a toss up between 2017 and 2019. Neither have been particularly good.
There is no way I'd trade Malkin for Kaapo, even at 35. Malkin is still a difference maker, Kaapo is a passenger player at this rate.

I actually think the Rangers should absolutely go for a Malkin trade. Go all in while you have Fox and Laf on ELC. Malkin is still an elite player. He definitely is not washed.

Malkin will only be available though if the Pens flame out in round 1 or 2 I think. If he plays well and they go far he probably plays next year in Pitt.
