Fixing the culture

Created by: PeterK
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 27, 2021
Published: Apr. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Winnipeg helps solve their apparent culture problems and Eichel gets a fresh start while Buffalo still gets a Number 1 center for years to come on a bargain deal. Ves is better than Jok and WPG has two of the best LW in the game right now anyway.

Mark Scheifele has a M-NTC. He list 10 team no trade list. Would he go to Buffalo?

Why are the Sabres adding Jokiharju? "Ves is better than Jok" absolutely not

Well, I think scheifeles NTC makes this less of a possibility. But even if he waived I don’t know if Buffalo says yes. Maybe swap The Joker for McCabe with an extension?

If I’m Chevy I make this trade so fast.

Ah, fair point. Did not look at that.

Ok. My understanding was that he was underperformed and I thought him being an RFA might not want to be sticking around. Ves has a decent ceiling too. Either way the post is about Eichel for Schiefle, that's what matters.

Is it the coaches fault? Jets need better D men. Simple as that. They’re stuck with this group indefinitely. Wheeler’s contract is immovable.

Really? I personally value Joki over Vesa. I think Eichel is more valuable than scheifele and the 1st too.

Schiefs has been a beast this season, and I’ve always been super high on Schiefsle. He’s better than Eichel imo, maybe Eichel becomes better than him, but it’s not a sure thing. Winnipeg giving two firsts for a young player upgrade and a center swap that may not even be an upgrade seems extremely steep to me

Im assuming you’re not a Winnipeg fan, so you likely haven’t seen the last 5-7 games. He’s been not great and has had a serious attitude issue. It’s visibly clear that he’s not putting the effort in either. Led to him getting benched, him and Maurice got a little heated at practice and he still didn’t look even close to 100% in the game yesterday. Looks like a bit of a disconnect there.

So I think this is more about changing the culture of the team, while maintaining a strong top 6.

I think a culture change can happen with a coaching change/some bottom six leadership. A lot of players go through slumps, and while not putting 100% effort in is concerning, I don’t think trading him is the right move. Now, somehow getting rid of Wheeler may do some good for the culture, and I only say that because of some rumors about Laine kind of getting bullied. But if a real respected coach came into Winnipeg and changed the attitude of the locker room while not letting Wheeler dictate everything that goes on in their, I think that would be enough for the culture. Also, with the plethora of cap space Winnipeg has this offseason, I think targets like David Savard and Nick Foligno would do wonders for the team

Trust me, I’ve asked for those changes for years, a new coach and no wheeler. But I’ve learnt to just accept that coaching and leadership won’t change.

Our defence sucks I agree, but PoMos systems sucks worse! PoMo is the definition on insanity, trying the same thing over and over expecting a different result each time. Rolling the same lines, the same vets, reverting back to the same stagnant combos and systems and never making any significant changes. He has nhl ready players who can step in to at least try something different but refuses to and continues to play aging vets because that’s his M.O! It was nice seeing FeFe benched, but as far as I’m concerned, that decision was made way too late. Maurice has refused to adapt to the roster that he was given
Something needs to change, and the easiest way to get the team gelling and breathe new life into a roster is a coaching change. It’s time!

I think the deal is OK, I don't know if it helps either team very much except for change of scenery type stuff, Joki is a hard ask, not so much because of his talent but more because he's a RD something we don't have a lot of in our system, Ryan Johnson or Pilut

Throw lots of money at Rod Brind'Amour. David Thomson ($43.7 billion net worth) can put together a financially competitive offer.
