I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s not a good idea for VAN to take that much cap on with Dumba, but I think that’s pretty close to working for MIN.

With Roussell going back the other way it works for next year, then Eriksson comes off the books for the next year so they should easily be able to afford him in 2023 as well, then his contract expires the year after. I think it should work cap wise

I like this trade for Minnesota. Lind has a top 6 potential and we need a RW. Plus a relatively high pick.

I think they’d play hardball to get at Hoglander or maybe add a lesser prospect, but overall it’s close.

The big thing is whether BG wants to keep Dumba for next season or not.

I dont know. I published literally the same trade early in the morning, but I did not have a Roussel dump and my 1st was for 2023 when Vancouver is projected to be more powerful. He gives us back a 2022 first and a good depth forward (not for the money though), the first might end up in the top 10 of a deep draft. I do not see what we could ask more. And we do not retain. There must be a line after which Benning would end the call.

I think Benning’s problem is that he doesn’t know when to end the call...

But I get your drift. Nice thing is that Brackett has a good read on their prospect pool so there could be value in a relatively lesser prospect. Lind also needs to be protected so it doesn’t fully solve the expansion issue.

"Best case scenerio is holtby is selected, Virtanen is traded, and Canucks re-sign pending UFA’s for below market value". Yes that is the best case scenario for any GM. Benning and his track record shows he will overpay for a middling UFA, and be cap strapped again.

I don't mind Virtanen but at this point taking him on the Flames roster is just helping Vancouver solve their cap problems and nothing else. I think if he is traded it's definitely out of the Pacific division.

Yeah it’s sort of one of those “trade him to anywhere” things. I just know calgary has a weak RW which is why I sent him there but I feel like there are a lot of options for him

Doubt Jim Benning would do Hoglander for dumba 1 for 1. Hoglander has 2 more years on an elc and plays in vancouvers top 6. His contract is one of the reasons the dumba trade is even possible for Vancouver.

Benning refuses to include Hoglander when negotiating for ekman-larsson, doubt he would include him in negotiations for dumba

For sure, you're absolutely right and I kind of figured Calgary was just a place holder team!
