It won’t be a late 1st, and I doubt Buffalo gets a 1st for Risto. Toews got 2 2nds and Schmidt got even less. I know cap dictated some of the return, but not a lot of free cap floating around right now.

No thanks from Winnipeg

I strongly suspect that the sabres will not trade ristolainen and expose borgen as a consequence. You could probably draw straws to see which two forwards - out of bjork, asplund, and thompson- they choose to protect. If i was gm of seattle, i would take borgen, and say thank you very much. I feel like adams is still green, and if the market is at all soft for ristolainen, the optics of a bad trade would be just awful, plus our gms and coaches over the years seem to love ol'55 for better or worse.

Regardless of whether or not you think Ristolainen is good or not, he obviously is ready to leave. So you can lose him for nothing next offseason, or get something for him this offseason and save an asset in Borgen. Hopefully some new people in the front office help tip the scales.

On the other hand I am fully prepared for the Sabres to sign Ristolainen to an 8 year deal on July 1 and I will die inside.

Im not disagreeing with you. I dont think adams will do it. Remember any team he goes to is looking at the same problem- hes got one year til ufa, and you now have to protect him, so you expose another d.

Habs need an NHL goalie to expose at expansion draft... if they trade Allen, they would need to make another move to aquire a backup to expose. Don't think Lindgren has played near enough career NHL games.
