Because it's a terrible value contract. I think if I re-signed him today I wouldn't pay him half that. He also fits better as a second or third than some of the other bad goalie contracts (Bobrovsky)

Okay, but you both realize Koskinen's had a 0.925sv% since Smith returned, and that the first dozen games of the year (in 24 days mind you) he was Edmonton's only viable goaltender? Koskinen's repeatedly shown that he's above league average when he's not ran into the ground and when he's tandem with a goaltender he can split starts with.

Since coming back into the league (2018-19), Koskinen ranks 39th out of 59 goaltenders to appear in at least 2000 minutes over that three-year span. He has a .917sv% at 5v5 over this period of time, immediately comparable to Demko and Georgiev. He's within a save percentage point (effectively rounding error) of Bernier, Murray, and Nilsson, and only 2-3 save percentage points back of Lundquist, Gibson and Fleury.

Koskinen is overpaid, but on today's market, he's still getting $3M (ie, the same as Bernier). He's far from a bad contract. Kassian makes more sense if you must have a second Oiler on that roster.

All things considered, it makes absolutely zero sense that Bobrovsky isn't on that list ahead of Koskinen: you aren't even close to being cap compliant so why the hell would "order" of the goaltenders matter? There's so many inconsistencies with what you're considering a bad contract here that this entire AGM is borderline ridiculous.
