He’s probably going to get 7 million. A great 2 way player that is now playing Center on a 30 goal pace.

The Sabres would just sign him and use the year to try to work out an extension and also thank Vancouver for the discount

If he gets term it will probably be 7m or more yes. The idea here is that he wants out of Buffalo and signs a 1yr deal to go play in his hometown and force buffalos hand. He probably won't get awarded more than 6m if he goes to arbitration for a 1year deal. He is scoring a lot more this year but his shooting percentage is well above both his career average and the league average so it is likely unsustainable which would be a big argument that Buffalo would use if he went to arbitration.

This might very well happen but the idea would be that he signed the offer because he wants to leave and will be guaranteed UFA status this way if he wants it. Buffalo could definitely match but when you match a QO then you aren't allowed to trade the player for one year. So if Buffalo matches and they can't get an extension worked out then they are guaranteed to lose him for nothing because they aren't allowed to trade him. If Reinhart were to take this deal from Vancouver it would be pretty clear that he doesn't want to stay in Buffalo so they might be better off taking the 1st and 3rd to guarantee they get assets for him.

Reinhart gets closer to $7 million per, You're at least $1.000,000 under for both Hughes and Pettersson. Danault already turned down more to stay in Montreal so he's not taking less to play in Vancouver.

I think as long as Jack is here he will want to stay. They are great together and best friends.

Reinhart gets more if he wants term but this is a 1yr deal to get him out of Buffalo. Petey might be closer to 7m (barzal comparison) but with his injury this year it could be enough to put him slightly below barzal. Hughes at 6.5 is a 1.5m more than other top defenseman bridge deals like Werenski and McAvoy. Hughes also doesn't have arbitration rights so his only leverage is to sit out like Nylander did.

It's very possible that he will want to stay and try to help turn things around. But if he does want out this is a way to get it done and after this past season, and the way the team has performed the entire time he's been there, I don't think it's unrealistic to assume there's a chance he would want out and Vancouver would be a logical place for him to go (hometown and fits in with their core age group). But of course none of us are in his mind so we really have no clue what he wants with his career.

I know they cant trade him for a year, but id rather lose him for nothing than let him leave for Girgensons and an ECHLer with those 2021 1st and 3rd

The Sabres can easily avoid offer sheet mayhem by electing arbitration with Reinhart, which they have never done with him to this point. He would not be eligible to receive an offer sheet, and only be able to negotiate a long term deal with Buffalo. If he didn’t want a long term deal the Sabres can sign whatever the arbiter awards and trade him anyway. If they wanted to this is, which I don’t believe they do. But if Reinhart wants out Buffalo ensures they get the return they want.

Ya it can all be avoided if they elect for arbitration in the first window. Would probably be a prudent move for them to make. Will be interesting to see if they do that or not. Regardless I don't see an offer sheet happening but you never know. They're always fun to think about either way.

True. I think the Sabres would make sure they knew Reinhart’s long term plans so they can plan accordingly.

Ya you'd think if they have any indication that he isn't interested then they will file for arbitration to protect themselves. Especially since, as you pointed out, doesn't change their ability to negotiate a contract before the hearing.

So unrealistic - firstly, sam does not sign this, secondly if he did, Buffalo says thank you very much and easily matches......
